Nigel Lythgoe Uses Sanjaya Like a Cheap Trick for American Idol's Cash Cow

If you listen to American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe's version of things, he loves Sanjaya Malakar. And he most certainly did not cast the 17 year old on the show to make people angry when he outlasted better singers. Of course not. In a new article, Lythgoe makes himself sound like an idiot by saying, "I'm old school, so any time my shows are talked about, I'm really happy." Of course you are, Nigel. While Sanjaya is ripped apart in the media, you pretend to take the high road to look better, all the while deliciously savoring the press and big bucks the show rakes in as a result. Lythgoe also acknowledges VFTW for the first time in 2 years, calling us, "a fly buzzing around a cow" and saying, "when you're getting 30 million votes, whatever that website can do is just not enough." So does that mean Idol will try to rig the votes this week to get rid of Sanjaya to make Nigel look smart? I guess we'll see! All we can do is have fun with it and vote. For more information on Lythgoe, visit www.nigellythgoe.com (insert laugh here). __________________________

They may get 30 million votes a week, but this site gets millions of hits a month during the on-season. A vulture circling over a sickly cow, maybe?

Hi:  I just found this site and think it is a blast!!

It is about time someone started a website like this. I think Idol has run its course at least it has for me.  Niegel ....Piegel....who cares what any of them think. They are all rolling in dough which is not a bad thing so I think it should be allowed to be made fun of.  This is still a free country, right?

Did Taylor know what that Tshirt was when you gave it to him?  I voted my ass off for Taylor and am seeing him in a concert here Thursday.  Now to me he is a fantastic entertainer, singer and musician.  Please lay off him or I will have to send my mother-in-law to visit you on her broom and you don't want that to happen to you. LOL

Two of our message board posters (Bollox and KillerBee) gave Taylor the shirt. Here is a recap by Bollox:

KillerBee and I (who both live in NYC) went to see Taylor in December when he was on Regis & Kelly to promote the album. We got to say hello and had a picture taken with him.

We then remembered we wanted to ask him whether he got a Worst shirt (both Rosebud and Quossum had tried to deliver one to him via venue security when Taylor was traveling with the AI tour).

KB and I went back to the R&K studios, saw that the other fans had left and that Taylor was getting ready to leave. We asked him whether he had ever gotten the shirt, and he looked at KB and me and started to laugh. His response was "No, but I WANT one!" He clearly knew of the site.

We briefly disucssed how to get it to him (Taylor was going to be back in NYC the following week for some more CD drop media). We then worked with Dave to open the Worst store, KB ordered a shirt and the following week, with shirt in hand, we went up to see him at the CBS Early Show (where he was doing a small outside fan M&G).

KB and I positioned ourselves at the end of the handshake line so as not to overstay our time with him while other fans were waiting. We asked him if he remembered asking for the shirt and handed him the bag. He looked inside, saw the logo and started to laugh again. Took the shirt out and said "Vote for the Worst. I'm going to put this on."

I asked Taylor whether we could get a pic of him with the shirt and he immediately held it up and posed. I asked him specifically whether we could post it on the site and he said okay. (KB later told me I must have said "are you sure, Taylor," at least a half dozen times).

After we said our brief goodbyes, Taylor walked back into the CBS Studio (he was singing later in the show), still holding the shirt in his hand and saying something like "Vote for the Worst. I'm going to have to put this on."

KB and I annouced our VFTW Victory and the photo was posted later that day and has been a staple on the VoteForTheWorst homepage since December.
