If your Bible study teacher is, in fact, a "huge American Idol fan" ~ he could be in for a heap o' trouble come the afterlife.
I seem to recall many instances in the Old Testament in which God used his prophets to warn against just such behavior.

america has been inundated by trashy, mass-marketed advertising and products, which contribute to our society of simulation and consumerism. in orwell's book, 1984...the state used advertising and marketing in the(>corporate-controlled<)media as a form of brainwashing and population control. in context, our media is also a useful tool to keep us in a credit/debt state...or in other words a "slave/master" state. any real professor worth his intellect will tell you that, nowawdays, you don't go to college for "higher" learning or academic enlightenment...you go because you want to be able to get that high paying job(status/money)...afford that big house (that you really can't afford)...buy that bmw..porsche(small genitalia)...and have decent retire pension(die in florida). the good ole' "american dream"..that's what your mother and father has taught you from birth as they've been brainwashed by the same tools. let me ask you folks a question: was mom and dad really happy?...or were they alcoholic-over-the-counter pill popping lunatics? you know the "american dream" has become a nightmare for many...right? the parodic, self-indulgent elements of pop-cultural and consumerism in its crass forms only aid in its complicity. in our culture, the "hyperreality" of television, film, music, etc. is MORE real to us than our actual lives. Our television "families" (e.g. reality show characters, sit-coms, oprah and a host of others,) seem more real to us than our own flesh-and-blood. (just look at the responses here re: Sanjaya) most of you folks here relate to these "idols"???...if that's what you'd like to call them; better than some of your own friends and family.
we spend our time in malls buying shit, gathering the spoils of consumerism; sitting on the couch of life, watching television shows about wanna-be singers, voting for b-rated, ex-Hollywood muscleheads for governor and alcoholic-cokeheads for president, allowing child-molesting priests, lying politicians and corporate thieves to slide by with impunity...and we are completely clueless with regards to "true" reality and state of our world.
we have entered a new paradigm folks---idolatry, consumerism and the love of hyperreality dominates our lives, and we have finally lost our connection to "real" things.

| I was hoping to find evidence of intelligent life somewhere on the web during my lifetime, but I'll admit ~ I didn't expect this to be the place.
I must warn you, though. Consider mine the voice of experience.
Most often, when trying to inject some articulate discussion onto a message board, be it an AOL News Board, a Sports Blog or entertainment sites such as this, it seems to fall on deaf ears.
Uh, lemme try that again.
The more astute ones observations, the greater the chance said nuggets of wisdom will be, (a) totally ignored by others on the same board, (b) taken off by the senseless AOL censors, or (c) both.
My wife simply shakes her head in disbelief when I make one futile attempt after another after another, et cetera, et cetera, ad nauseum, to shed light on an otherwise dimmed & dumbed-down subject ~ only to see the light repeatedly snuffed out.
To witness the virtual swampland of racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, misogyny and, did I mention horrendous spelling and grammar(?) which permeates cyberspace, is to lose hope for the future.
SPEAKING OF WHICH...
I was channel-surfing earlier this evening when I stumbled upon Bill O'Reilly's SmarmageddonFest over on Fox, ahem, News.
Yesterday's massacre at Va. Tech taught Bill this lesson: You would have thought, he Billowed, that Hurricane Katrina would have permanently altered the way Americans view the world.
(I WAS INTRIGUED.)

(I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING! YOU MEAN FEMA, BECHTEL, HALLIBURTON & ALL THE OTHER OIL-SOAKED CRONIES OF THE WHITE HOUSE WHO SWOOPED IN LIKE VULTURES TO PICK AT THE BONES OF THE DEAD AND DYING?)

It was at that point, Bill's guest, Jeanne Wolf, reporting on "American Idol" from the "Left Coast" ~ reminded Baron von Dickhead that he, too, has a responsibility to his viewers.
That he, the great and powerful voice of "the illiterati" (I made that one up ~ it's synonymous with "the willfully ignorant", aka, those who voted for Ernest T. Bass, AGAIN! in 2004) also must be held accountable for the message he puts out every evening.
Apparently, Count Crapula didn't like the message Ms. Wolf was sending his way. He not only cut off her mike, he then waved both hands in the air, demonstrating someone who wouldn't stop talking by flapping his fingers upon his thumbs, and, just to make sure that she, and anyone else watching got the message?
He looked directly into the camera and said, "BLOW ME."
Nothing quite like throwing a little hissy fit on-air to "elevate the tone" of our national discourse, huh?
Anyway, according to my "American Idol" sources,
"SANJAYA IS DEAD. LONG LIVE SANJAYA!"

| I'm not going to say you guys are evil or anything like that. But I do wonder how any respectable person could justify doing something like this. Forget that you are "ruining the show" or however others want to put it. Have you ever stopped to think about the person that you are voting for? If you had any compassion for other people you would let go of your gripes against american idol and realize it isn't nice to vote for someone just to prove your point and try to make the show fail. In your efforts to do this you have hurt someone (in this case Sanjaya) and put him through more than he ever deserved to go through. People that didn't like him saw him as a joke and all of that is because of you. Had he been voted off earlier he would have never had to go through all of this. I'm sure you'll post some kind of comment about how what I'm saying is stupid but maybe for one second it actually made you think about things and grow a conscience. I agree that they probably pick some people that aren't that good and will keep people watching in the beginning but once they get to a certain point those people are eliminated. Do you honestly expect them to pick the best singers that they see AND the people that fall into the middle? No offense but what is the point of picking the people in the middle if they're never going to make it to Hollywood anyway? I'm sorry if someone that "votes for the worst" does it because they feel slighted by American Idol but what you are doing to the individual you are voting for is even worse than what american idol did to you. If this is how you approach everything in life then I wish you luck because bitterness is not a good personality trait. |

Ok this is getting ridiculous. American Idol is out there to find people in America with talents in their singing. Apparently all this information you guys have on this website is false. The judges do not only let the bad ones through. I mean seriously there WERE people on the show who could sing. You see they didnt let bad ones through to make a good show. I mean come on. I'm genuinely terrified. I admit I love TV like many others in the U.S. but I'm genuinely frightened by the lengths to which people will go to show their feelings for American Idol. I have four words to share with those of you who think it's normal/acceptable to go on a hunger strike, camp out in a tent, consciously threaten a person, or any other not-so-brilliant idea that might pop into your head, just to show your love for programming whose goal is to get you to watch its commercials. I have a theory why the judges’ comments last week were more positive for Sanjaya. I don’t really believe his performance was that much better than the previous weeks. The judges are seeing the public voting for Sanjaya and in case he wins, they don’t want it to be because people “voted for the worst”. They need to feel that if he wins, it will be because they thought he deserved it. Otherwise, it would seem as if Simon & the others weren’t in control. Guess what? They aren’t! VOTE FOR SANJAYA!

Let me assure you that if anybody tries to sue you, I will defend you to the tee. In fact, I'm thinking of suing the Department of Education for educating our kids so poorly. And, I'm also thinking of suing everybody who slanders Sanjaya's good name, especially those that call him racist names and call him gay. Degradation of character can carry a very heavy penalty. So, I'll be watching for the next person who comes on here that makes any homophobic or racist remarks toward Sanjaya, and I will also be watching for anyone who says terrible things about you and your fine website. I'm sorry to say this but you people have no life and behave like mentaly retarded five year olds. C'mon seriously people like me like American Idol and don't want it to become a joke. Sanjaya dose not to deserve to be on the show and Taylor Hicks should not have won last year. I've heard that ford ad and he was terrible. Many worthy contestants are gone now because of your idiocy.
