The Top 10 Best VFTW Performances of American Idol 6

American Idol 6 was the weirdest season yet, mostly because it was so boring. But some performances stood out as VFTW classics. Here is the list that was compiled by VFTW members that highlights our 10 favorite performances of the year. Some were great for their bad singing, some were great for their eccentricities, and some were great for one word only: Sanjaya.

10. Cheek to Cheek - Sanjaya Malakar
The favorite VFTW contestant of the year made a splash with his big band night performance when he came out dressed in an all white suit and slicked back hair. Afterwards, Simon mockingly called the performance "brilliant," to which Sanjaya shouted, "Welcome to the Universe of Sanjaya!" We loved it!

9. Feelin' Good (Results Show) - Leslie Hunt
Leslie didn't make much of an impact on the show since she went home early, but we loved her quirkiness and we wish she'd stayed around longer. Once she was eliminated, she ended her results show performance with some brand new lyrics: "Why did I decide to scat? America don't care for jazz!" She probably would have continued if the show hadn't immediately cut her off and went to a commercial. Leslie, you rock.

8. Livin' on a Prayer - Jordin Sparks
Jordin started out as a pretty good singer, but fell apart near the end of the competition. This was the first Jordin performance where it was obvious she wasn't as good as everyone thought she was. The vocals were painful, the screaming was amusing, and the Gina Glocksen hair just wasn't working. Not even the judges could compliment her after this one.

7. You Give Love a Bad Name - Blake Lewis
Hidden beneath a season of boring performances was one standout from the beat boxer: his Bon Jovi night performance. Blake took the time to entertain and add cheesy sound effects to his performance. And while it was incredibly strange, it worked, because it finally kept us awake that night. And it definitely helped ease the pain of Sanjaya's elimination 2 weeks prior.

6. Jeremy - Sundance Head
After Sundance sang an OK performance of Mustang Sally, VFTW considered not voting for him anymore. That was until he murdered Jeremy with his off key, wonderful rendition. He was immediately voted out the next night, because not even a miracle could save him after such a VFTW performance.

5. Something to Talk About - Sanjaya Malakar
Boy did he give us something to talk about. After actually impressing the judges with Besame Mucho the week prio, Sanjaya threw caution to the wind (and put a bandanna in his hair) for country night, returning to his former glory and rocking out Something to Talk About. The judges were so disgusted that they told him he wouldn't last another week. Sadly, he didn't.

4. Nights in White Satin - Sundance Head
Our ManBearPig may have done a great job with Jeremy, but we fell in love with him during his first performance. From the strange phrasing to the weird vocals, Sundance immediately made his presence known in the semifinals. After the judges ripped him a new one, he looked like he was about to cry, but he didn't let out the tears until the following week's results show (where he cried every time anyone was eliminated).

3. I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing - Antonella Barba
Antonella impressed us all by not playing it safe when she chose this Aerosmith ballad and completely missed the mark. The judges were ready to pile on top of her, but she fought back and didn't let them insult her without a fight. We saw the fire in her eyes, and Antonella was a great pick for the next 3 weeks. Soon after, VFTW proved that the "Antonella" sex pictures were indeed not of her, and helped her stay in the competition longer.

2. Bathwater - Sanjaya Malakar
This performance is now famous for so many reasons, but the #1 reason is the amazing ponyhawk. That hair was just amazing. When Sanjaya came out, we couldn't stop cheering for the entire duration of the song, and we knew Sanjaya was embracing his VFTW side from here on out. When he kept the time of the song with his hair... it was magic.

1. You Really Got Me - Sanjaya Malakar
Are you even remotely surprised that this was #1? This performance defined the entire season and stands out as the best performance all year. The hair. The vocals. The crying girl. Sanjaya's eccentric dance moves. After this performance, Sanjaya didn't go home, and America was furious. But VFTW knew that Sanjaya was just starting to come into his own, and this was when we all fell in love with the kid. AI6 will always be remembered for You Really Got Me, so much that Sanjaya had to reprise it for the finale. Great work, Sanjaya, you'll always be our papaya!

Were we all duped by "Sanjaya"? This guy claims he created the character as an "art installation": http://ww.tmz.com/2007/05/22/sanjaya-human-art-project/ Fake, or faked out?

After falling asleep consistently to season 6 (for the most part) and becoming an avid follower of VFTW this year, I finally decided to post! Having read other top ten lists and things about this season, I decided to throw my own out there of things that really kept it entertaining for me: 10. Barry Gibb's man boobs showing through his shirt. 9. Shoutouts for VFTW from contestants and guest stars (come on, Sligh and Hicks were obvious). 8. The nicknames given to contestants from this very site, i.e Jorbacca, Nosphilratu, etc. 7. A drunken Paula Abdul for what seemed like 95% of the season! 6. Horrible beat boxing to horrible songs! Thank you Blake! 5. Watching Gwen Stefani's career continue to fall fast enough to break the sound barrier 4. Thinking I was seeing another remake of "Night of the Living Dead" when they brought Clive Ho-Tep out on stage. Same with Tony Bennett. 3. Yes, I'm actually gonna admit it....Haley Scarnato's legs were entertaining for me. 2. Becoming an avid fan of VFTW.com 1. The universe of Sanjaya! Thank you VFTW and all the posters on here for making this a bearable season for me. I'm actually looking forward for next time! -Chris

LOS ANGELES - An estimated 29.5 million Americans tuned in for the season's final "American Idol" with Jordin Sparks winning the prize — a sharp drop from last year's finale, according to preliminary ratings from Nielsen Media Research. Last year, 36.4 million people watched Taylor Hicks win... that represents a 19 percent decrease. ---- Perhaps the sucktastic performances throughout this craptacular season might have had something to do with the dramatic drop in viewership. Or perhaps people don't like Wookies. Either way, it's a shame they can't calculate the Papaya Factor - how many people put up with the 2+ hours of stench just to watch Sanjaya rock out again? __________________________

WWSS: What Would Sanjaya Sing?

Gee, I guess the tweenie population is not as invested in Jordin's success as much as the producers may have originally anticipated. Wonder how that bodes for CD sales? I suspect it's not a good omen. I bet half of the Blaker fans tuned it out as well. Why bother to watch it when you know it's rigged? Magooish __________________________

Did anyone notice how very little we saw of Melinda on Tues and Wed night's shows? It's almost like they didn;t want to remind people that the best singer had been sent home. And why do the crying girl's parents keep bringing her back to be made a fool of? This is going to scar her for life. She will forever be known as the Sanjaya Crya.
