Paula Abdul's New Single - Dance Like There's No Tomorrow
Posted by thefunnystone on January 18, 2008 - 8:26pm
Paula's new single off of Randy Jackson's upcoming album just leaked. And actually, it's not half bad. It sounds like anything else you'd hear someone like Britney Spears do, because we're sure Paula would sound like pure crap live. Which is why even though this is a modest victory for her, we're excited to see her perform it live at the Superbowl! There's a train wreck you won't want to miss.

Dave,
While it's not pure crap, it's close. I don't miss that thin tinny annoying voice from the 1980's. It reminds me too much of "Opposites attract", which is one of the stupidest songs ever written. It's a waste of recording space.
And since when are synthesizers popular again? Geeze this sounds like the old 80's pickup bar music. No one cared about the music then, it was about getting drunk and getting laid. Paula and Randy are delusional if they think a retread of Paula's old crappy music would be relevant today.
Please, make it stop.

I think it sounds pretty good, but it's not the best I've heard. How good it sounds has nothing to do with whether people form this delusion that it sounds 80's. That's the stereotypical thing someone says when they hear someone was from the 80's. That and they are washed up etc. LOL. In terms of sound, I'd have to put it above complete garbage like SouljaBoy for example. Recordings that don't even deserve to be called songs because they lack the most primitive song writing skills. In terms of how thin or rich her voice is, I really see little difference when compared to many of todays hits. It's more of a stylistic choice and is used all the time. So maybe Paula can't be a Kelly Clarkson. Oh well.. It's still no worse than some of what's out there. "Opposites Attract" stupid? I doubt it. Unless the goal was to have a flop like Taylor Hicks. I suppose if you were aiming for failure then that song was stupid because they failed to fail, LOL. Hey, point is they made a recording and it sold well. Her 6 #1's were there because people liked what she put out.
As for synthesizers. Since when did we decide not to put synthesizers in music today? What? Kylie Minouge anyone?, Soulja Boy, Britney? Jessica Simpson? Mandy Moore? Eminem, JZ, Fergie, Jordan Sparks, Katharine McPhee. - they all use synthesizers. I'm sure when they wrote Paula's song they considered if it was up to date or not. Fact is it's easy to say the cliche thing like "it's from the 80's", LOL, get real. And that comment about how no one cared about music in the 80's. They only care about music today right? If anything, it's the other way around. Good song writers are scarce these days. Hey, I hate to create friction on a hater site (that loves American Idol, lol).. But let's at least keep it real.
"In terms of sound, I'd have to put it above complete garbage like SouljaBoy for example."
Wow, what a ringing endorsement JZ.
The rest of the song and your comments speak for themselves.

Sorry Magooish, but he's kinda right. There are synthesizers in every song today, people did like 80's music, and it sounds more modern than it does 80's. Not that it's good (or her real voice) but it's as good as it could be.
Sarcasm aside, I wasn't trying to give her a "ringing endorsement" but make a different point. You picked up on the Soulja boy comparison because it was convenient to spin my point. Would it have been believable if I said she was the best current artist, with the best song today? That would have been an endorsement. But to clarify my point, I said SouljaBoy is complete garbage to point out that I don't think it's a very deserving song by contrast for ONE example I used. But that was not to say Paula's song is just barely above that in quality. I think it's far above that because it has real song structure etc. And there are lots of other songs out there that are also not as good as hers today. So while I'm not hailing it as the best out there, I'm seeing it as average or high average and definitely deserves to out there. Randy and Paula know something about music. Soulja boy doesn't and perhaps because his song sells he could care less. Not that it does any good for my bleeding ears after hearing him. And as I pointed out before most songs use synths today and her song is plenty modern enough.
This would fit in really well on the Alvin & the Chipmunks soundtrack.

I LOVED 80's music; I just couldn't stand Paula "Pillzapoppin'" Abdul's music then...and this Refried Bean of a track is the same bullshit she put out then.
Embarrassing...but what could one expect with Paula and Randy OF ALL MORONS behind this dreck?
Magooish, you're right; jz's comments spoke for themselves.

P.S. "What? Kylie Minouge anyone?, Soulja Boy, Britney? Jessica Simpson? Mandy Moore? Eminem, JZ, Fergie, Jordan Sparks, Katharine McPhee. - they all use synthesizers." Synthesizer use notwithstanding, jz, what the FUCK were you trying to prove by utilizing this list of UNTALENTED, MOROINC, TRASHY HACKS??? Jeezus Christiy Almighty! That is embarrassingly PATHETIC.

I would not include Mandy Moore on the trashy list - she's working hard to get out of the teeny bopper box and make her own music. Also I wouldn't include McPhee on the untalented list - she has a good voice. The others are absolutely true. Especially Fergie - she's just nasty.

JBC - I stand corrected! Thanks for the comment...
I actually should have used a caveat rather than a sweeping generalization, but that list, in the aggregate, made my eyeballs pop out of my head...

Kylie is hardly trashy. She may use sex appeal, but trashy, I think not. She's an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for crying out loud. Also, last time I checked, Eminem, Fergie, and Kylie at least from that list are big stars, which (along with the fact that synth isn't necessarily 80s) is the point.
