The Carly Smithson Plot Thickens... Should She Be Disqualified for Working with Randy Jackson in the Past?

The Carly Smithson plant debacle grows stronger by the day. We've done our research to find out something very interesting. Carly was signed to MCA records during the same time period that Randy Jackson was the senior vice president of A&R. Carly was at MCA in 1999. Randy started at MCA in 1998 and was there for 4 years. Should this mean an automatic disqualification for Carly? We think so! An American Idol wikipedia entry says that Thomas Lowe was disqualified last year " because it was publicized that he had been signed to BMG while Cowell was at the label, which is against Idol rules." If it is, we demand that Carly be disqualified. If it isn't against the rules, that's some shady, shady stuff going on. This plant definitely made it to the top 24 based on a prior connection with Randy, which should be completely unfair.

I thought Tom Lowe got booted off coz he was a gay escort.

If they're going to keep Carly, they should bring him back!

He's past the age limit now. He also had nude pics online and there was a controversy about his being paid a large amount of money as the spokesmodel for the Tourism Board for the City of Boston. If this is truly the reason he was cut, then there is a double standard and outright malfeasance at AI's core. It's certainly easier to pimp a made up story about a "poor Irish girl" getting a second chance than it is to try to sell a Harvard grad and semi sucessful gay Englishman to middle America.

That said, I want to know why AI does not publish their contestants rules and requirements for the general public to examine. After all, they depend upon their viewers trust in their process to rake in a large mountain of $$$, through advertising alone, let alone all of the offshoot projects.

Carly whatever the name she is going by today is only the most obvious plant in this greenhouse of a season.

God, it would be so funny if all the plants were taken out all before the Top 12, with Carly being one of the 1st 2 out.

don't worry. They will never let a non-American win American Idol.

By the way, my personal opinion (don't hit me please) is that she is a very good singer, despite her waaay over-done audition and the fact that she is a plant. She also seems like a really nice girl (not to mention that I simply can't resist Irish accent :-) ). The finger of blame should be pointed at the producers rather than at her.
