Wonder why Garrett Haley picked such a boring song?

ETOnline has a great piece on their site where Garrett admits that the show screwed him over by forcing him to sing "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do." The contestants this year apparently pick 3 songs off of a list of 50 (that's not a lot) and then are assigned one of the songs. Garrett didn't get any of the songs he picked, and was then basically forced to sing the one he did. Real fair, Idol. First you give the kid no screen time. Then you throw him up on stage with a song he didn't even pick. Yes, he wasn't very good, but it looks like he wasn't even given the chance to be. Just another reason to Vote for the Worst and make fun of this ridiculously awful show.

Poor kid! He really got a raw deal but he handled it gracefully.

This makes me even more determined to VFTW!

I wish I could say I was surprised, but it's the type of manipulation one should pretty much expect from them. They were probably scared he might stick around long enough to take some of the tween/granny votes away from David Archuwhateva. Garrett seems like a nice, sincere kid and went into Idol naive to their ways. They took advantage of him, humiliated him and then threw his ass on the curb.

I also was disgusting listening to Simon tell that Colton kid to get a job and give up his dream of becoming a singer. The show is becoming pretty damn sadistic. What's up next? Asia'h giving a bad performance and then Simon telling her her father just rolled over in his grave?

Sure it was mean, but Colton's not going to be lighting up the charts and having a career in the music biz.

Imagine what the audition shows would be like if more people were told just how bad they were...

yeah, the audition shows might actually be honest!

when i think of all the artists that i have loved through the years, i don't think any of their voices would have been praised by simon cowell (whom, btw, i think is pretty much dead on 99% of the time)
rock singers either have the magic or they don't
they don't need to sing like opera singers

That's pretty sad. After TPTB never show the guy's face, guaranteeing him an early exit, they don't even let him sing a song he likes on his one chance on a stage with an audience of millions.

And because of his age, he likely missed a load of school that he'll have to work extra hard at to make up, meaning he sacrificed a lot to be on the show. Kinda gross that he never got a fair chance.
