David Archuleta's Stage Dad Has Idol Connections

Rumors are circulating that David Archuleta (pictured, left, grinning stupidly with a puppy) is dealing with his dad Jeff Archuleta, the stage dad from hell. But besides the fact that Jeff probably pushes his kid way too hard, he has previous Idol connections. His cached Loopwise page states that his company Arch Music Group has "spent the last 5 years working with American Idol and Star Search performers as well as young up and coming singers and songwriters who want to compete in the top 40 arena." Well we know he probably counts his son as the Star Search performer, but the Idol connection is interesting. As if David didn't already have the previous connection where he met with Idol producers during season one, now his dad has been working with show contestants. We'll do some more digging and let you know what we find out. This season of Idol is like a giant forest... of suck.

Poor kid. I can only imagine what went down when he faced the wrath of his father after that disaster the other night. If he manages to get voted off before the final, I could see him catching a serious beating. His salsa-dancing Honduran stage mom doesn't sound like such a prize either. I'm hoping for another meltdown; maybe she'll run up on stage and try to finish his song like she did at his "benefit concert."

When does this kid ever grin in any way other than stupidly?

Personally, I think he's retarded, and before anyone jumps on my case:
- Paula called him a savant.
- Some autistic people are referred to as savants.
- Not so long ago, before autism was as commonly diagnosed as it is today, and before the world went crazy PC, there were a lot more retards running around.

I feel a little uncomfortable watching him even when he sings well.

You guys, really. This is becoming like a tin-foil-hat conspiracy site. There is no way they rigs the votes. It would be exposed, and ::POOF:: there goes a billion dollar cash cow. Too many people would have to know, and it would get out. Everything does. They don't need to rig it, millions of morons will watch no matter. They certainly do manipulate the audience in other ways, but rigged voting, no way. As for Randy's connection to Carly, that's a joke by people that just don't get the music business. Because he was at the label while she had a deal there he selected her to be in the show this year? Absurd. 1) was she SIGNED by him personally? 2) she FAILED horribly there, if he was involved directly he'd want her dead and buried forever. Trust me, Randy Jackson shows up at Idol, makes his inane comments and drinks Coke, collects his money and goes home. He could care less who's there, or even what's happening in front of him. It's a very well-paying job, that's all. The judges have contracts for two more years, at astronomical salaries--what the fuck do they care? You guys are like jaded teenagers who, when they realize that not everything can be taken at face value, swing wildly the other direction and think nothing can. You're also showbiz outsiders who like to feel like you're insiders that "get" what's going on, trust me you don't. AI is just a tacky silly game show with potentially very high stakes that is fun to watch. That said I love your bitchy recaps and the basic premise of the site, so keep it up.

Being a savant has nothing to do with being autistic.

I agree wholeheartedly. He seems like a sweet kid at first because of the perpetual smile, but after a while that is the only emotion and fascial expression he's capable of showing, and it's apparent that he isn't all there. The kid should have been downright distraught and pissed off at himself for that last disaster, but he keeps on smiling as though he doesn't really understand what's happening. Ignorance is bliss.

just because he is a greaseball and has a dopey haircut doesn't mean he isn't talented. I think he really can win it all. The last song did start out slowly, but the choruses really rocked- more than any other perforance but Chickezie's. He has a real rock voice.

What an odd website this has turned out to be. People that disagree with it express their hostility openly and with impunity, while those that agree with it are attacked by those that also agree with it. It was not my intent to offend the true believers nor will I debate the use of one word (which does not necessarily refer to a singer) and my intent to express an opinion.

It is certainly an odd method of drawing people to the cause.
