The sideburns and the hair looks fake. Same with the heavy foundation and other makeup. It's like looking at a mannequin. Creepy.

I am not really sure whether or not you are sarcastic, but:

* Clay does not have the best voice - but, he still could sing.
* His performances sometimes are over the top (read: head snapping), nevertheless, he could perform.
* And yes, he looks *mature* now.

I think had VFTW existed during season 2, he could have easily become the pick since Simon was having the time of his life dismissing him as *not idol material*. Even the producers may not have wanted him to win when he first appeared since he was nerdy. And at that time, it was definitely impossible to market a weird-looking nerd singing pop songs... During the course of the competition, he did not sail through easily with the judges' Clay-bashing, making David A look like a god by the suffocating uber-pamping remarks to the latter.

But at the end, he proved them wrong by being the most successful male talent in terms of album sales (with respect to overall sales though, he is surpassed only by Kelly and Carrie), but Chris Daughtry may prove to be a potential threat by taking that place from him. This upcoming album may be a barometer of his music career. Should at least one song be a hit, he still could make it. Otherwise, it might be rough for him.

This is on top of him not being a *faker* when it comes to charity work, say:
[1] his being UNICEF National Ambassador
[2] US Pres Dubya appointing him as adviser on matters relating to programs and services for persons with intellectual disabilities
[3] and his foundation for the mentally challenged (read: retards).

In all fairness, he is at least contributing something to society... Maybe his foundation could help those tweentards that are plaguing AI nowadays? nyaha!

Summing up in an objective manner, he is both a decent performer and singer (and maybe even worth buying his albums and tickets).

Damn it! I hope Clay pays me for this post *bangs head on the wall*

It IS the total KD Lang look. But overall, he just looks like he is trying way too hard.
Who cares anyway...the music will be the same old same old.
