Claudette Yamin, mother of singer Elliott, dies at 65

RICHMOND, Va. - The mother of former "American Idol" contestant Elliott Yamin has died at the age of 65.

Yamin spokeswoman Monet Corso says Claudette Yamin died at Henrico Doctor's Hospital in Richmond on Monday night. The cause of death is not being released, but Corso says Yamin had complications over the last year stemming from hip replacement surgery.

Elliott Yamin came in third during the fifth season of the Fox television show. During that time his mother became a celebrity in her own right.

Yikes...was she sick with something? If not, how sudden. :/

Really sad. Elliott and his family will be in my prayers. Im glad she saw her son become successful in following his dreams. She raised such a nice son.

She suffered from lots of problems, apparently. Even during AI5 she wasn't at her best and was hospitalized for a while, Elliott mentioned it once.
She probably never recovered from a hip replacement surgery.

My thoughts are with Elliott and his family. She was a very special lady!
