Simon Admits this Season Sucks Because the Contestants Have No Personality

So much for the best season ever! Simon Cowell was asked by Variety why season 7 isn't interesting and he said that the contestants have no personality. "They are giving very safe answers to questions, making safe song selections. We are not getting a sense of who they are. We have to try to pull it out of them more." VFTW figured this one out a long time ago. Looks like they should put us on their payroll. Or tell David Archuleta's stage dad to stop beating the contestants into submission.

Clive Zombie is shown the door, perhaps other changes will be in store for the Idol TPTB.

2010? What does that mean, Chan? The year the show blessedly DIES ?! I hope so.

For newcomers to this website, pay attention to everything Professor Chan says. He's one of the best posters here and his blog the night of Performance Night is 95% or better spot-on.

Yeah, Chan, it BEGAN as a singing competition, but the whole "they can play instruments" thing this season has opened up a lot of doors, meaning it's a PERFORMANCE show now. Pfft, who cares? It's still mediocre. In fact, they should change the name of the show to "American Mediocre." Would make more sense.

And the show isn't just hand-picked but hand-eliminated as well (i.e., fixed). They fucked up big time when they did so to Danny, Amanda, and Chikeze. Just about the only interesting one left is Jason, so it doesn't surprise me he's leading in this wonderful website's polls. (I picked Syesha, because I SO want to see Carly go home, but that's pretty much just me I guess, and ... other lovers of GOOD music ... not this crap).

That's not saying much. If you replaced Simon with a turnip, your statement would still be true.

That would be the last thing I would want to see. They can butcher Mariah and her ilk all they want, but after watching The Beatles travesty, do you really want to see them do that to The Ramones?

Simon likes British bands and singers and American songs that were popular in Britain. He doesn't like country music because it's not popular in Britain. He pimped Archuletta when he sang Robbie Williams - unpopular here, very popular in Britain. Heart is not overplayed on classic rock stations in Britain. It also explains most of the other things he doesn't get, like not knowing what a luau is.

Explanation accepted. However, seems if he's going to bring this bias to the table, he should not be a judge on "American Idol."

It's lovely that Simon is only honest when it's convenient for him.  If it was the start of the season, he'd be singing the praises of all these wastes-of-space.  Now that it's near the end, and ratings are tanking, he's saying how much they suck.  Doesn't he do this every season?

NOTHING can destroy the Ramones. The entertainment value would be PRICELESS! But I guess it's a little too late for Kristy to sing "The KKK Took My Baby Away".... Archie sings "Rock and Roll High School"? Everyone would become a caricature of themselves!

2010 is when Simon's AI contract is up.  And he's declared that will be his last season.  And he ALWAYS tells the TRUTH.  So, yeah, that probably won't happen.  The opportunities for a non-talent to make $30 mil a year for doing nothing are pretty limited.  So it's mostly wishful thinking on my part.
