Former Contestant Carmen Rasmusen Says Certain Idols are Favored

Season 2 American Idol contestant Carmen Rasmusen is coming out to say that the Idols who the producers would like to see win are given preferential treatment. In an article she wrote for the Deseret News, Carmen talks about these discrepancies. She says, "I only received minimal vocal coaching from American Idol voice instructor Debra Byrd" while she listened to favored contestants like Clay Aiken receiving over a half hour of quality feedback and lessons each week. She also says she ws given no feedback on her performing or wardrobe choices, while it was obvious other contestants had a lot of help. Is this fair? Of course not. But that's Idol for you. Our guess is that Brooke is going to receive the Rasmusen treatment this week while the Davids are given extra attention.

Carmen says Clay Aiken got favourable treatment while Brian Dunkleman said Clay Aiken was screwed over. Which is is it, please?
The words of these people are just bitter opinions - and contradictory ones at that.

Which is it? Both I suspect. Surely Clay was helped to get him outta that geek phase, but I bet they never suspected he could get into the final 2, and THEN they screwed him over. All this LONG before they really started messing with the 'results' I bet.

I think the show never wanted Clay - but he was so popular that there was really nothing TPTB to stop it. They went along with him because of his popularity and he was bringing in viewers. Watching Rewind it is obvious that they waned Ruban and not Clay. He was one of the ones they wanted to go far (for money reasons) but I don't think they wanted him to win. Him being the runner up is one of the most eye brow raising thing that has happened on the show. Julia DeMato (who was also on the same season) said that "there were people who made it very far who got extra attention in singing instruction. I had to buy my own close and be taped so they fit. Others got a stipend for clothes and got fashion help." I also heard that one of the reasons that they didn't want Clay to win was that they thought he was gay. The first winner of UK Pop Idol (I think that's the correct name) came out and there was a lot of controversy there about it and TPTB didn't want to risk it with Clay.

Isn't this bitch's 15 minutes of fame over yet? All I've ever seen her do is suck up to Idol, saying how wonderful it was. Now, she didn't get enough time to polish her performance. I got news for Carmen: You can't polish a turd, honey!

I loved watching Clay Aiken when he was on AI and his style of music he sang...especially "Bridge Over Troubled Water". I remember the big controversy when Clay didn't win and Ruben did. Not anything against Ruben, he's talented in his own right...and still adorable! :) The CD sales volume proved the controversy all the more. Oh well, that's all yesterday's news anyway.

What I'm trying to get at is this gay thing. I could care less if Clay's gay or not, I'll still repect and love the guy. So I don't know why the media makes such a big deal about that. But to even *think* that there was a possibility that Clay didn't win because he was gay, makes me sick!

Actually her voice has *vastly* improved since her AI days. I was never a huge fan of her, but I ran into some of her music a few months ago and you wouldn't recognize her.

From what I have heard, it wasn't because he was gay, they just didn't want have to deal with the controversy if he was.

No, Carmen isn't trying to steal the spotlight "look at me!" type of thing - she was HIRED by the local newspaper (The Deseret News). The Deseret News wanted to revamp the paper and did a survey of what type of articles people wanted to read about and who they wanted to write them. She writes an article in the paper about Idol every Friday.

She is much better now. I love her CD!
