The singer following her (I think) also deserves to be on this list. He was the original faux rocker, complete with spiked bracelets and these 'rockin' hand gestures. He massacred 'When I See You Smile' then blamed it on the fact that his only accompanyment (sp?) was a piano.

And if it wasn't for Craggle Clark, he would have made the top 12.

Bathwater gets my vote for #1, PEOPLE, he kept time with the ponyhawk!

Looking back, Taylor was very entertaining, of all those videos he is the one where I felt truly entertained in a "showbiz" sense, most of the others were entertaining in a "freakazoid" way.

I forget, who was up against Taylor in the final?

I think it was McPhee.

And I just have to say....
Copacabana - worst. song choice. ever.

Ah, that's right. Thanks Castor Troy.

I'd also like to suggest an honorable mention go to Fantasia's guest performance this year on the show. I know she wasn't a contestant, but it was truly VFTW worthy.

bonjour,

This is a wondrous list! Many I had never seen such as Bennet and Juanita. Thanks for the enjoyment.

Whilst I agree with most , would have put Taylor's "play that funky music ' in top 5 and also added, somewhere in top 20, scarnato's very amazingly weird "turn the beat".
these two, besides the top 4 already listed, really did it for me

and oui, the two top sanjaya's will never, ever, be beaten.

How could you forget this oldie but goodie??

For some reason, I always had the hots for her.

I am so glad you posted Nikki McCabe! Despite being furious that Tamayra Gray was kicked out (I thought she was better than Kelly Clarkson), I was kinda excited to see more of her...so deliciously aweful. If VFTW existed back in season one, we'd be drooling more over her.

Nikki just missed the top 20 by a few votes.

I love that the first season was not forgotten! I would have put Juanita closer to the top, though.

And I totally loved Rasmusen. She hadn't even made it to the top 12 on her own or something like that, right? The judges decided to randomly pick three contestants that reached at least the first round of Hollywood, then they picked her after having them all sing again. What was up with her legs?

John Stevens is also one of my favorites. Plus I have seen him out in Boston twice! He probably goes to the Berklee College of Music. Once I saw him walking down the street near the Pru tower holding hands with a girl. The second time he was having lunch with two girls at the California Pizza Kitchen. It was quite thrilling.

What a list of classics! Nice! Those last few weeks with Sanjaya were such a fun time.

I would have added the one where Kat McPhee's dress unbuttoned all the way up the front exposing her panties to all of America on live tv. Not so much a bad performance as a shockingly hilarious moment, exaggerated by the low camera angle that caught it.

Another one that gave me the creeps the first time I saw it: Anthony Federov doing "Poison Ivy." When he sings that last word of the line "You'll be scratchin' like a how-UUUnd," (0:55) I think every dog in America (and Russia) began howling along with their owner's televisions.
