I would have thought American Idol would have had an issue with anyone, the Castros included, selling "official" Castro merchandise while the Idols were still on tour.
I would be very surprised if there wasn't some sort of licensing agreement in the contracts they signed.
That said .. going after kids for homemade fan club gear ...AFTER taking one of their designs to make money off of them. That's just ... low.
But it would be funny if AI ended up suing them and they ended up losing the profits in addition to what money they took in from the show.
Lol, maybe the Idol people were just waiting til after the tour to avoid bad press. The answering machine at the Castro household could very well have a message from a 19E rep waiting for them:
"Mrs Castro ... about those T-shirt sales ..."

I don't think the AI people care about fans selling t-shirts related to contestants. They just care about people using anything resembling the American Idol logo. I had design that said "Idle American" flagged by CafePress no matter how many changes I made to it.
The Castros didn't start selling "official" merchandise until the day after Jason's contract with 19E ended (either 90 days or 3 months after the show finale). So they were OK there.

BTW the "further sale of merchandise with his name" includes his albums. This means that the stores shouldn't sell them. Momma Castro will get mad if you do...

Wow, thanks for stopping by and delivering that wonderful lesson, Dr. Politics! Way to inject your political views into a situation where they have absolutely no relevance.
Now I don't personally know Mrs. Castro or her son, but on what exactly are you basing your assertion that she is a liberal? Her family seem to be a group of fundamentalist Christians, and those folks are normally not liberals, although I suppose they could be. But Jason Castro has dreadlocks, so he has to be a liberal, right?

i enjoyed watcheding jason last season...being a part of the pot head clan, it was entertaining to say the least.
even if his brother does get through to the actual voting, will anyone vote for him knowing that his mom is the biggest mooch on the planet?
