He did make some good points, and I do agree that Kris Allen sucks, but so did Megan Corkrey, and he thinks she's great.
I remember Jason singing "Moon River" and thinking it was good, but terribly, terribly cheezy.
Whenever Simon calls someone "old fashioned" or "cabaret", I almost always like their performance. That may say more about me than about Simon, but I will make the following argument:
What he calls "cabaret" songs (he flings the term about rather loosely) are singers songs. He, the rest of the judges and the producers do not want a great singer. They want a good singer who is marketable like Britney or Justin (Timberlake, not Guarini).
Jason is some dork who dedicated his song to his son, hoping to win over the frautards, but when Simon shredded him, they did not abandon David Archuleta.
Personally, I have strong doubts about whether the voting means anything at all.
I've also wondered about the process of determining the songs the contestants sing. I've heard that they are presented with lists from which they can choose a song for that theme. Makes sense, but then occasionally something weird happens like when David Archuleta sang some Australian Christian pop song that you know wasn't on any list unless David and his dad were involved in its construction.
Another time, way back, Clay Aiken actually sang a song that he composed. The song sucked, but I have to give him his propers for the effort and being the only contestant ever to do that.

We will likely see that feat repeated this season if the producers allow Adam to sing his own songs.

That will depend on how much they like him that week.

"Whenever Simon calls someone "old fashioned" or "cabaret", I almost always like their performance."
Simon's problem is that he sees music only as a disposable commodity.
Art doesn't have an expiration date. Just because something is "old" (a singing style or a particular piece of music) doesn't mean it's bad, or even that it's not marketable.
I doubt anyone will be singing "Bleeding Love" 50 years from now, but Gershwin will still be filling concert halls.
The smaller venues, where you can actually hear the music without an echo bouncing off the back of the stadium wall...

So when the contestants get reamed a new one for bad song choice, then get sent home as a result, it's completely unfair. I would call it scandalous even. Like the one poster said, I would give anything if one of them had the balls to blurt out, "you bubblebrains MADE me sing that awful song against my will!"

I vaguely remember him--didn't he have a pink patch in the front chunk of his hair?
Anyways--something's gotta be up (more so than usual)...the song choices this year are "absolutely dreadful!"

Honestly, I really felt bad for this guy last year. He was reamed big time and it was totally embarrassing. Now, I just think he's a bitter loser. Who makes a vblog criticizing new contestants when you yourself blew it big time last year? I'm all for making a vblog criticizing the show format or giving behind-the-scenes information about what happened when you were on the show. I'm also all for giving opinions. However, you should know how much of a d-bag you sound like when you criticize the Kris Allens, Norman Gentles, Matt Girauds, and other contestants who didn't quite make it... especially when just one year ago, you were onstage flopping around like the biggest tool at a Doobie Brothers cover show:

So Yeager, please continue making vblogs. But don't talk about how the contestants this year can't sing or don't deserve to be in the top 12. The video above shows that you're just as, if not more, boring than Kris Allen. It makes you look bad.

I don't see why Jason is criticising people considering he sucked last season

You probably don't remember Jason, but he was in the top 24 last year. He was cast as fodder, but he had a decent voice, though of course the judges didn't ever compliment it because he wasn't ever given screen time. Either way, his weekly vlogs are kind of notable because you can see the show from the perspective of someone put on the show who knew that had no chance to win due to having no screentime. Around 8:31 he talks about how the contestants pick a list of songs and then the producers pick which song they get to sing. Not that we didn't know this, but it's good to hear it from more sources. Either way, Jason's vlog is smei-interesting, so keep up with it if you want to.
