Hi Fi Says Adam Lambert Signed a Record Contract in 2008

So back and forth goes the ping pong ball between Adam Lambert and Hi Fi Records. Hi Fi is set to release an album of Adam's tracks. Adam claims they were studio sessions where he recorded demos for other singers. Hi Fi releases a memo that says Adam wrote most of them. Adam then said that the songs were his own demos, that he didn't want them released, and that they didn't reflect the type of music he is now recording. All caught up now?

So now Hi Fi Records is saying that Adam Lambert signed a recording contract with them in 2008 (via MJ's Big Blog). Hi Fi is saying that it has a record contract signed by Adam on Feb. 12, 2008. If this is true, he probably wasn't out of the contract by the time he tried out for Idol in the summer of 2008, meaning he violated the terms Idol sets forth for the show's contestants (you can't have a current recording contract). So it's pretty obvious to assume why his old label is mad: Adam signed a contract with them, he decided it wasn't good enough for him, and he probably tried to get out of it by going on Idol.

We'll keep you updated on the drama, because watching Adam sqiurm over the old tracks is pretty funny. He recorded them one year ago, yet they now don't reflect the music he is currently working on? That's called being a sell out, Adam. If he did sign a contract with Hi Fi, then they have every right to release his music. Guess we'll see if the contract materializes soon.

That picture still makes me laugh.

So is Hi Fi now the bad guy from trying to make a return on their investment? It sounds like legally they have every right to release whatever crappy music/demos Adam recorded with them.

No way Idol drops him even if he was under contract. They'll probably punish him some other way. Like making him spend Christmas in Milwaukee with the Gokeys.

Can we ban all these front page tards?

I love that hideous picture of Adam. The music that he recorded LAST YEAR is not the kind of music he wants to record now? He clearly has no idea who he wants to be as an artist. Oh wait, that's because he's not an artist.

What will be really interesting is which sells more, the recordings from Hi Fi or whatever new stuff he records under RCA?

Tards will buy everything, of course.

I just love all the fantasy scenarios. The only thing that is going to happen is Hi-Fi Recordings will release the album which won't get much or any airplay as they don't have the resources to promote it, and will therefore not sell very well and Adam will go on and release his post-Idol album for RCA. It's the same situation (minus post-idol contract) that Kristy Lee Cook was in last season with her previously recorded album that wasn't released by the record company until after Idol had ended.

Yup, Hi-Fi played their cards when Adam got all the media press that 19E was funneling to all the media outlets and then they released his music when he was 'hot' after the Rolling Stone article.

It's not Hi-Fi's fault that Madam was a damn liar. They are just milking that fat cash cow Madam like 19E is.

How do we get a copy of that contract? I hope TMZ gets their grubby hands on it and posts it.

Does any of you actually believe that Adam had a solo recording contract with Hi Fi Recordings?! John Hecker, CEO of Hi Fi said before that HiFi just bought the songs from Wilshire Records.

"Hecker said Wilshire Records approached Hi Fi Recordings about releasing the material earlier this year when Lambert was gaining success on the show. "

Obviously, they didn't give a damn about Adam before he got famous. Now as far as a contract- an agreement to record was made between Adam and Wilshire, no one is disputing that. But Wilshire is not a record company and the agreement was not a record deal.

Yeah, I don't think it's clear that just because if Adam signed a 'record contract' in 2008 and the terms were never fulfilled that it's legally clear that the contract is necessarily still active.

Because say like if Adam asked Hecker before auditioning for AI whether or not it would be okay for him under the terms of their contract for him to go ahead and try out for a contest in which the prize was an exclusive recording contract, and Hecker gave him permission rather than choosing to sign him up at that point to an exclusive contract himself or demanding that Adam complete his demo first as per their option contract. Then in equity HiFi could conceivably be estopped from demanding performance on the contract in a court of law.

That's even if it was merely because nobody ever anticipated that Adam would do so well and Hecker was just giving permission for Adam to go out and get free exposure.

Hecker's like a Spencer Pratt I think - a couple of years ago according to his bio he was like a club owner or something like that? Then all of a sudden he fancies himself a music mogul; markets his 'clients' using Perez Hilton, TMZ, and reality shows; gets overly dramatic with exaggerations to grab free publicity; everybody hates him; he doesn't seem to actually do anything but is apparently rich, etc
