"And for the "Plants" who made it through the audition process..... I give them some credit for keeping there dream alive. And not stopping at nothing. But they made it through because They DO have talent." ...problem here is the assumptions that 1) they auditioned, and 2) that this is a "second" chance for them to make it in the industry. The caveat that contestants cannot have a "current" recording contract is a HUGE loophole - drop their contract, get them on AI, get them exposure, sign them back up and have an instantly marketable artist on your hands (I lost count as to how many of the finalists on shameless season 7 had previously been signed with a recording label). Starting with season 2 when even the runners-up proved sellable (Aiken, Locke, Gracin), I think the industry started looking at AI as a way to parade and promote their "discovered" talent in front of America for publicity (think "The Best Recording Artists You're Not Listening To"). Nothing wrong with "that" premise if that were the way the show actually promoted itself (rather than as a talent contest where people can walk in off the street and become stars)... but viewers actually pay to text/vote and tens of thousands of hopefuls pay good money to audition (plane tickets, hotels, etc) when they don't have a realistic chance of making it on the show no matter how talented.
