I filled out the entire survey (which was much longer than you'd think). I was brutally honest - I don't like having four judges, could care less if Ellen or Randy returned, and for the first time since the show began I've watched it on and off. This is easily the worst year the show has ever had. If I was hoping for another faux lesbian coffehouse singer, then I'd be overjoyed, but I'm not, and for the first time in nine years, I can't even remember the contestants' names most of the time. However, at the risk of being chewed out by everyone else here, I told my best friend tonight that I realize American Idol is ridiculously manipulated. But those stupid fuckers need to do more manipulation and pick people that can actually sing and actually have personalities. I can't believe they've picked a group of contestants who would, regardless of who wins, make Taylor Hicks look like a better, more logical win.

I would never buy a Connick CD. I don't share your view on Connick. I think the reason this weeks contestants sucked is because of Connick's song arrangements. He took over the show and the results of how good it was is reflected in this weeks show ratings. What American Idol needs is to remember what real American Idols did to become idols of America like Elvis, Holy, Stevy Wonder, and Jackson. They all had their own sound. Do you think for one minute these stars made it big singing other peoples songs? This show has to figure out how to utilize the unique sound and talent of it's contestants. If they don't they can kiss this show good bye.

I took the survey. Really wanted an essay portion. The "pre-season" sucks because it is manipulated clips, red herrings and makes absolutely no sense. 100,000 people auditioned? Exactly when? I mean, what gets shown includes so many that suck. Who eliminates 99,000 of these people? It sure as hell isn't Simon, Kara and Randy -- doubt they even see 1,000 people. so I'd tell them to just put the auditions on live on a C-span channel allowing a bunch of freaks with no lives to watch the thing 24/7 and other media to do their own montage of what was relevant. And then show ALL of the Hollywood Week -- that I'd probably watch. As packaged it sucks -- more red herrings and clips that leave a viewer totally unable to choose along with the judges. Stupid. Get rid of the three groups in three room for DRAMA. Don't need to see or hear people getting picked as the final 24 or watch ad nauseum people jumping for joy. And then, on live night, run it long enough to show the mentor clips and let the contestants sing the whole song! No lip syncing! Ever! But you cannot convey any of that in the survey. So told them to show Randy the door, to keep Simon (they won't) and Kara (they should), to have just 3 judges and (by grades, but not an option) have guest hosts rather than guest judges cause Ryan is useless and could be easily be replaced.

Completely disagree with the idea that music is old or that new music is unique. EVERYTHING has been done -- and the few things attempted that haven't amount to crap. The difference is that music has been archived and that it has been produced -- people have it in their homes. It is all relevant. Do i listen to Connick all the time? No. But he's good. So's the Mormon Tabernacle Choir -- but in very small doses. Do I like country. Not a lot. But it can be good. But variety is BEST. Love stuff from the 40's, the 50's, the 60's, the 70's and 80's. Mostly the 90's and 00's suck -- but there is some decent music there. Mostly the 60's though. and it sure is fun modernizing the 40's. This is a strange website/blog. You hate Idol -- but you watch it. Why? The two 'critics' rip on everybody. Think calling it as it is is great. But nothing positive? And yet, you keep watching. WHY? I like the show. Sometimes it's bad. Sometimes it's good. But overall it entertains.
