Quote "LadyHeather": Anyone have any good old tv shows to get on disc or torrent to fill the void?
Depends on what you like to watch. Cool PBS nonfiction: All of the PBS "house" series (Frontier House, Colonial House, 1940s House, Regency House Party, etc.). Ken Burns Jazz, Baseball, Civil War, etc. are each about 19 hours long, but give them 10 minutes. Guns, Germs & Steel (PBS). Martin Scorsese's "No Direction Home" (about Dylan) and "The Blues" (there are more episodes of The Blues but they were lousy IMHO). Comedy: Keen Eddie. She Spies. Arrested Development (which MUST be viewed from the first episode, in order.) Celebrity Rehab. British Empire sets American morons straight: Tabatha's Salon Takeover/Tabatha Takes Over, Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares Project Runway: seasons 6 & 7 don't get re-run that often Classic comedies: Addams Family, Monkees, Laugh-In
that oughta keep you busy, you cant, you.

No, Leader Dave IS Dave Matthews.

Thanks, BW, I will look up some of those on wiki. We have the Civil War but for a southern "states' rights" girl it seemed a little biased. I promise to give it another try. I have Addams Family, and look forward to re-watching it. I think Carolyn Jones was an inspiration for me as a young girl. I have the Guns, Germs and Steel book but did not know it was a series. Deff worth getting!
LOTS of good ideas in your posts, I can't wait to explore them. Thank you oodles of poodles!
PS: I've never been prouder to be a "Sister Cant"

Guns, Germs & Steel was a three-parter, I think, starring Jared Diamond (sporting an excellent Surgeon General Koop beard), and the experience of filming apparently made it all just a bit more vivid, even for Diamond himself.
Yeah, states' rights...to legalize slavery. [Sure, it was part of the ongoing civil discourse about what rights are federal and what rights are reserved to the states, but name one other point at issue. One.] My independent study of the matter has led me to conclude that 1) From the moment the nation was founded, everyone knew a showdown on the subject of slavery was on the horizon; 2) Everyone knew the winner of the Civil War would get to decide about slavery---in other words, this was that showdown. (The rest is just details. Most of what was said by Northern and Southern politicians alike was spin, and as relevant as the stuff politicians said about the Gulf Wars, World Wars, etc.)

That's a bit above my expertise, BW. I just meant I am in favour of smaller government, more control in the individual states, and less and less federalism. Back 90 years before I was born, my family lived more like slaves rather than own them.
To keep it light and fun for VFTW purposes, let's just say I don't believe in any one getting to own another human being. Unless it is a power exchange as in D/s play. Then it's not really slavery, just a bit of pshyco-drama. More therapy than reality.
And to keep it real, I go back to the words of our founders, "All men are created equal." God bless us all, each and every one of us.
Love you all! I do mean all. Even our trolls.
ps: I'm starting Guns, Germs, and Steel tonight--just d/l'd it and converted it to Apple TV format. Thank you so much for all the great suggestions!

Mmkay. Thought you meant you were one of those Southerners who insist to this day that the war had Nothing To Do With Slavery. (They say it was all about states' rights. In a stunning coincidence, every one of them just happens to be white.) Me, I just meant that since our founding, Americans have been fine-tuning the balance being maintained between federal versus states' rights, and yes I understand that the Civil War was part of that.
I come from poor people myself.
I will now say no more (in case the admins were wondering) on this egregiously off-topic topic, but I do hope that if you feel like it, you'll natter to me (perhaps via the TV show forum or private message) about whatever you've watched.
your sistah can't, won't, never even suggested it, BW

Well this has been off-topic, but a good read nonetheless. And in your defense, the article was on "manlove" so you girls do deserve equal time. :p
