Random Idol Thoughts

I bet they feel like asses for calling them the most talented now. I can't recall even hearing Ryan say it in the last few weeks. I guess the ratings slide tipped them off that the sheeple aren't buying their bullshit this year.

Here's a thing. Being in the UK, I watch the show on a torrent download, because it's either that or wait until Sunday and see the specially ruined version they ship over here and show on a digital channel.

Anyway, this week the torrent was not available on Wednesday morning as usual. In fact, it wasn't available Wednesday evening either, it eventually showed up at around the same time as the one for the results show. And I'm wondering if the producers, who surely know that torrents are produced and who is doing it, were trying to put pressure on behind the scenes to have an edited version put up with Paula's gaffe removed.

I may watch the UK broadcast version this week and see if it has been edited out.

Wow, in the wake of all the Paula brouhaha, I completely forgot about the David Cook/Natasha Bedingfield snub. Thanks for the reminder, Chan. That was absolutely awesome. I think it may have even almost put a tiny scratch on David Cook's ego for about five seconds. Then he realized how awesome he was again.

That's funny that Ms. Bedingfield got a redo. A similar thing happened on her first single released here in the US, "These Words." In the UK version of the single, Bedingfiled committed a lyrical gaffe that somehow no one noticed, and the mispronunciation ended up making it onto her album version of the song. In the song, she pronounces the word "hyperbole" as "hyper-BOWL" rather then "hy-PER-buh-LEE." When the song was released in the US, that part was re-recorded with the correct pronunciation. Hooray for mulligans!

I would love to see Castro in the finale, but I doubt it will happen. Mainly I would just like to see Archuleta voted off just to see if he would have any reaction whatsoever. He'd probably just stand there and be like, "Oh, it's such a great song, and it has a great message. Yeah. What? Me go home now? Hmm. Mmmm. Durp!"

Just one thing though, since you did read the EW behind the scenes. It said that the original intro kept talking about David Archuleta's crush on her so I'm pretty sure Cook knew it was for the other David.

Words fail me at this point. It's all so horribly, terribly wrong on so many levels. Here we are, collectively telling the truth in plain sight, and it takes Paula-gate to get people to notice the Emperor is naked while strutting his stuff.

I'm with you on most of that stuff. But Cook stood up at the same time Syesha stood up. Then they moved over one spot so Natasha could sit down.

Natasha had an interview on TRL a little while ago where they told her it was little Archies dream to meet her, sing a duet with her, ask her for help escaping from his father, etc.

So, in order to believe Cook was flummoxed we have to believe that the moment was totally spontaneous, and that the "magic Archie moment" was a surprise to the contestants and the producers ... which I wouldn't buy

That whole thing was set up from the get go.

Reading the comments about the Bedingfield/Cook fiasco had me thinking about David Cook. He is generating a lot of hatred here because of his growing smug arrogance.

I have to say, so what? Why shouldn't he become arrogant, especially since he's going to get a big label deal no matter where he finishes on AI. Plenty of stars have that same quality, plenty of the great ones. It gives them the edge that makes them stand out throughout the years.

And Cook's personality so far is so bland, he's going to need that edge.

I'd love to see little Archie voted off before the final, which is why I was pushing for him for next choice. The elimination scene could be even funnier than Skeletor's. You would have to wonder if Daddy Lizard would run up on stage and start beating him in front of 20 million people.

Before discovering VFTW last season, my main two reasons for watching AI were:

1. to see all the bad singers during the auditions;

2. to hear what babble would drool out of Paula's mouth each week.

In the post-William Hung environment, AI has milked the badness of the audtions beyond the point of banality, and brought it to a level of cruelty and absurdity that would have shocked even Artaud.

Also, too many of these "bad" auditioners are on for self-promotion. They are intentionally bad and that lack of reality is not in the least bit entertaining.

Seeing Paula unable to get out even one coherent sentence and then have theoccasional total meltdowns like last night is the only real reason I still watch rather than just read Dave's &; the Prof's recaps.

Please don't take that away from me. Paula must stay!

One other random thought. Why aren't responses to someone else's post not positioned under that post anymore? It's hard to keep track of the threads like this.

American Idol: Extreme Makeover Edition

Nigel, you may want to take some notes:

1)Cut out all of the “bad” auditions of people who never had musical aspirations and are only there for their 2 minutes of shame.

2)More focus on Hollywood week; the process, the practice involved, the grueling hours and the emotional anguish.

3)Once the final 24 are chosen, let them sing whatever they choose until they get to the finals. I think AI can afford the royalties.

4)Theme weeks should feature both current and classic artists/genres, and not just whoever’s pushing an album that week. Eliminate “mentors” and their performances entirely.

5)Show us the actual number of votes the contestants get each week.

6)Cut the results show down to a ½ hour.

7)Drop the embarrassingly stupid Ford commercials!
