Oh, there have been times that I'd thought I lost my Belle, but she manages to come back. Her nose takes her a long way sometimes!

It snowed here today for the first time since October. Lily gets snow in her paws and doesn't like to have to stay in the kitchen until she dries out so she tries to look as pathetic as possible. She ends up looking like a cartoon vulture and wonders why we laugh at her instead of untying her.
I don't know if they count as pets but the deer came into the back yard as a herd today.

I'm glad to hear Lily's doing well.
I had quite an "event". I had a mouse in my house. I was mortified, but calmed down waiting for my George (15) and Tootsie (13) to "take care of it".
I even named the damned mouse Jerry (Tom & Jerry, and after Seinfeld...I had Kramer & George, so it was only natural to name the mouse Jerry).
After 2 days, I bought mouse traps. After 2.5 days, Toots maimed "Jerry", George caught "Jerry" and I killed & disposed of "Jerry".
Needless to say, we were all very proud of ourselves. Oh and, 4 mousetraps for sale - never been used!

Fieldmi, I'm so happy for you and your time with Lily.
Deb, I have 2 words about any mice/ assorted vermin.....glue traps. YES, I know they are cruel but they do the job and if you want to release the creature after it's trapped, you can take it outside and pour vegetable oil over it and it will free it from the trap. I used one of those suckers when a vole (!!) got in my house when Mr Random left a door open.

Glad to see that Lily is up to such shenanigans. That is adorable. Is she playing in the snow at all, or not feeling up to that? The deer are beautiful. They're your outdoor pets.

So Lily is alright? Did the vets ever figure out what was wrong with her?
Haven't seen you in a while, Deb. I hope everything is okay. Glad to see you back. I used to work with lab mice so they don't really scare me. But the ones you get in the house are bigger and uglier inbred vermin so those I can't stand.
The deer in the snow are so beautiful. Mini Lola and I saw one in our backyard the other night as we were pulling out of the driveway. I'm sure there must have been at lest 2 more. I've never seen less than 3 deer together.

110 degrees F down under at the moment and the dogs went for a swim from the jetty on our front lawn into the lake. They're so hot they just jump right in - legs splayed out, tongues lolling around - funny creatures.

Today is a sad day for me; it was 1 year ago today that my cat Emily passed away! I got her from my local Department of Animal Control shelter in 1999:

So sorry Batchild. What a beautiful girl. I'm sure you both have warm, loving memories. Of course you'll miss her terribly. She is in Worster pet heaven, which is a very special place.

Just adopted a new kitty cat!
My cat died a little over a year ago and I had wanted a new cat for a while. My roommates and I (all seniors graduating from college this year- yuck!) decided to foster a cat from our local SPCA. We had him for two weeks and of course I couldn't give him back at the end of the two weeks.
So, I filled out the paperwork and he is now all mine! They classify him as a young adult, but didn't have a birth date, so I'm not really sure how old that would make him. Anyone have any idea what young adult means? If I had to guess I would say he's about 1, because he definitely has a lot of kitten in him.
His name is Steve (interesting name for a cat...) for now, but I think I'm going to change it. I'll try to post a picture soon, he's an orange tiger cat and is SO cute!

SWR, we had the same dilemma when we adopted our cats. They told us they were about 2 so we just went with that and decided their birthday (they're brothers/litter mates) would be the date we adopted them.
While I do like the name Steve for a cat I wouldn't blame you at all if you changed it. I'd go with Mark.

SWR they are technically kittens until they are 12 months so he is probably 1 or 2.
Steve is an awesome name for a cat by the way. If we had chosen a boy cat he was going to be called Barry.

Congrats SWR!
When I hear young adult, I think of something in the 18-24 month range. See what its weight is now and judge its muscle mass, then do the same a few times down the road and see if there's any growth.

That's such a lovely story SWR. Best of luck to you and kitteh. I do think though that a ginger pussy's name should be Firecrotch.
