This is, at the moment - and I stress the 'moment' part of this - starting to look like 1984 in reverse. 1984 was the year that Reagan won 49 states and Mondale won his home state of Minnesota and DC. That's what could happen if Santorum gets the nomination.
Of course, Romney will probably get it anyway, and since the nation is far less united than it was in '84, the 2012 electoral map should look more or less like it did in 2008, but maybe +MO this time around.

Quote "sarahinAZ": The Southern folks REALLY don't want to vote for a Mormon it looks like.
True Dat.
Quote "sarahinAZ": Florida doesn't count as the South.
Have you ever been to North Florida or the Panhandle. Lower Alabama (LA) in the house! It's South Florida that is not the South. Hola, Miami!
That said, Santorum is out "newting" Newt.

Like I said on the first page of this thread, the fact that the Duggar family is actively and rabidly campaigning for Frothy tells you all you need to know about him.

Wow, the 'pubs are more divided than the dems for once. I don't think this result will make much difference in the end, but it may help sell Santorum as a viable VP candidate to the more moderate arm of the GOP. They need him on the ticket to give the right-wingnuts and fundies a reason to go to the polls.

^^Santorum getting VP gives me "Handmaid's Tale" type heebie=jeebies.
For those of you who have never read the book by Margaret Atwood from 1986, it is the most excellent example of feminist dystopian fiction. Right wing, military nut jobs stage a coup and erect a dictatorship that enslaves fertile women as 'handmaids' to provide children to the ruling leaders.
Because that's all women are good for.
And what is worse is that the guys are the ones infertile, rendered so from chemical warfare.
But it's the women who are at 'fault'.
So the whole society is remade, by force, to support bad science.
Heebie f'ing Jebbies.

Okay, try this out: http://spreadingromney.com/
Quote : The definition comes from a now-famous incident when Mitt Romney strapped the family dog to the roof of the car on a road trip to Canada. The dog was so terrified that it shat all over the car. This incident proves that, Mitt Romney is a slightly more sadistic and much more powerful version of Duck from Mad Men, and now he's got a Google problem of his own. SpreadingRomney is currently the third highest result when Googling "Romney." With a little help, a lot of links, it can be pushed up to number one. If you want to do something anti-Romney on the internet but Googlebombing isn't your bag, you can always join Dogs Against Romney on Facebook.

^^^ 06 was toxic for all republicans that year. His loss in Penn will have little to do with this primary. Santorum won twice there. I just want to see him win Michigan so all the republican's heads explode!

Least metal thing of all time. I mean, really? I love and hate this election. I know they're all batshit crazy, but a small part of me is terrified. What if Santorum or Gingrich becomes president? I think I'd flee to the less religiously crazy nation-state of pakistan

I'm from PA, and we were in Santorum's district, and I just want to say that I never voted for that asshat.
I also don't remember him EVER campaigning on the super ridiculous ultra conservative platform he's on now. I could be wrong, when he was here I was.....drunk a lot and my memories are fuzzy.

I want to add that I lived in Newt's GA district and I never voted for that loon, either. He's always pandered to the Neo-Cons, has had a 2nd grader's grasp of science and has been the butt of jokes.
Like this one:
Quote : Q: Why are Republican candidates' so pro-family? A: Because they have so many of them.

The Mittens clip also made my Facebook wall. I'm popping popcorn in preparation for the response by my more right-wing friends.

Don't dismiss Santorum: nobody gave Bill Clinton a chance of getting nominated, let alone beating Bush Sr. and this race is looking a whole lot like the one that ended with Clinton clinching the nomination. I think Santorum can switch over to a more moderate platform in the General if he wins the nomination. Be afraid if that happens.
