*insert 90210 theme music here*

Tuesday Sept. 2 on the CW - 90210 is returning! Clap

It looks pretty good from what I've seen of it. It's pretty much the same show with a different set of characters...with a twist or two:

Shannon Doherty is reprising her role as Brenda Walsh. It looks like a temporary role, but she WILL be back!

Jennie Garth will be a regular, as Kelly Taylor, now in her 30's.

Tori Spelling is returning at some point. I'm sure some of the others will, particularly the ones who haven't been getting a whole lot of work. ;)

As with the old show, the new actors are hilariously old for playing teenagers. Some of them look like they're pushing 30. The rest look like they're already there. Laugh

Yay!

Can't wait.

I hope it's hilariously over-the-top like the first one with a bit of Melrose Place added for spice.

It wouldn't be 90210 if it wasn't OTT. They did seem to indicate that it might be a more TMZ'd version of the show - playing to an audience that reads TMZ and other gossip sites, that are familiar with LA without ever having been there physically.

I'm sure the storylines will be rife with scandal. I can't wait!

Liar.

90210 was not over the top. It was totally true to life.

Gawd.

ETA: I cannot believe the whole cast isn't coming back. None of them are doing anything. I hope Dylan comes back and is still struggling with his demons. *Crosses fingers*

This week, I did a TV theme song quiz with my students; one that I played was 90210, and the kids had no idea. I realise that I was just old enough to get it and they weren't, but I'm pleased that it's the same theme song.

Apparently Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars genius, who did the initial relaunch script) wanted a whole lot of in-jokes, like The Peach Pit to be called something else with the same type of corny name.

I'm going to love this Laugh

ETA: I remembered the other thing Rob Thomas wanted in there - Silver is supposed to be related to an old character whose surname was Silver, but the head honchos scrapped that idea.

Also, it's obvious from that trailer that the Lit teacher is going to get himself in trouble after getting it on with one of the kids.

Yeah, but the actor playing the kid is probably older than the actor playing the teacher...just like on the old show. Remember Andrea? Laugh

What, the Cherry Pit?

It is funny if you read these articles about the re-make, Jason Priestly has both jumped at the idea of playing Brandon again (if offered), and said that he would only be interested in directing.

For anyone needing a nostalgic moment, several of the early season episodes are available to watch here.

Andrea's child should be old enough to attend HS, so it would be amusing to see her kid falling for Brandon or Brenda's child. Who in the real world would have to be younger by at least a couple of years, but in the magic of TV land, could be the same age. Then Andrea could counsil child against dangers of falling for a Walch.

I saw the clip Insane posted, and I see that West Beverly Hills has become intergrated, there are at least two minorities in the main cast.

Last time around, I only remember them as secondary characters.

I saw an interview with him. He said he was "too busy", although he didn't seem to actually believe what he was saying.

More like 40s! She was already in her 30s when she was on the show before!

I hope this shit tanks badly.

Every time they showed David Silver doing that lame-ass whitebread B-boy whicketty whack music performance I changed the channel. Couldn't watch it, it was too embarrassing.

I'll watch just to see if Brenda finally kicks Kellie's ass for stealing Dylan.

^^^

Wow, actual black people on a 90210 episode?

And are they doing the electric slide? You're right sunshine, I've been sadly misguided in my hatred of David Silver's funky music. See how this brings all people together? Too bad nobody thought of shipping him over to South Africa to end apartheid.

Somehow I think that's what a Blake Lewis concert must be like.

Is this the episode where the cast of 90210 meet black people for the first time?

So sad.

Laugh

Notice how the camera man keeps a camera on Brenda's ass? Laugh

That was a Simon moment

No worries of seeing David Silver(Brian Austin Green) since he's fighting Terminator bots this season. Maybe next year if this updated show survives more than 1 season. Laugh

Is it sad that I vaguely remember the episode, or at least that scene when I saw it?

About the parings and bed-hopping

Can I go to that creepy place?

I remember the campaign of the 90's that suggested you be carefully who you slept with, as you were essentially sleeping with everyone they had slept with.

That lead me to the thought

Brandon slept with Kelly, who had slept with Dylan, who had slept with Brenda.

Will we get closer to incest this time? IE, will someone sleep with a step-sibling before or after the "step" relationship occurs?

My favorite one was when Brenda has a slumber party and Kelly's bitchy friend comes over and makes fun of all of them, and they all end up fighting. The bitchy friend drops her purse on the way out, and something falls out, and zomg it's diet pills!! She's addicted!!11!!

And yes, the only time there were minorities on the show was when it was a Special Diversity Episode. Then the next week everyone's white again.

I seem to remember an episode later in the series where Brandon goes to some faraway city and runs into his really good black friend Mariah who was never seen or heard about before (or after) that episode.
