This looks to be on the quality level of Showgirls.

Showgirls was entertaining, though. This just looks like a POS Glee ripoff.
Moving to the TV Shows forum.

This is airing now on Comcast On Demand. I don't like Kat Pee anyway, but this was very dark and not at all entertaining. Makes Showgirls look like Shakespeare. Besides, at least Showgirls had Kyle Maclachlan's bare butt!
The girl Kat is up against is supposed to be a "Broadway pro" and acts like one. Kat, waves her arms around while singing like she's trying to take off in flight. Think of her OTR performance on Idol.

I would never watch this unless Katpee's acting is so abysmal it makes the entire show funny.

Silly NBC, everything Katpee touches turns into bumblebee shit. With a side of melisma.

I saw the most ridiculous promo I've ever seen for a show. Awesome autontuning, Katpee.
This looks like the all-time mess. Almost tempted to watch debut.

I actually liked it quite a bit
And honestly, up against her blonde pig of a rival, I actually liked KatPee!
Also, comparisons to Glee are not surprising but totally unfounded, the only valid comparison is the fact that they're both musicals.
I'll shut up now before I sound like a dumbass tard (too late?)

Considering this is on cellar dweller in the ratings NBC, the bar for success for this show is pretty low. I predict a full season pick up at least inspite of having KatPee as a main character. Her character plays into what she knows already(hopeful auditioner) so its not much of a stretch at all.
Plus, after all the jerky comedy/melodrama that is Glee, the way they just play it the story straight is good way to set the two shows apart.

NBC is doing an awful lot of pimping for this piece of crap. McTatas whining in our newspaper about how the show reminds her of her own life and wanting something so bad and just not understanding why you don't win. Still feeling very entitled apparently.

I watched the full advance screening. I saw some good things, some WTF? and one massive weakness...
The good stuff:
-People who love musicals will surely love this. You get a real behind the scenes view of how a musical is conceived, written, produced, etc.
-the musical numbers seem good (I'm no expert in this) and appropriate as far as how many there were on the show
-the shots of NYC are spectacular, especially the parts on the streets
-some good acting (with one major exception). Angelica Huston is a giant
Now for the major weakness. I can sum it up in 2 words: Katharine MCPhee. She's the central character on this show and McTits is way out of her league. Her acting is very stiff (her lines and movement). She's very unconvincing as a Broadway talent and smalltown girl. In her audition she's supposed to have blown the judges away but was really 'meh. The whole angle of her not wanting to sex it up is tough to take considering she's the opposite in real life. She beautiful, but that's about it.
I'm really the wrong person to judge this type of show; I watched only out of interest in McPhee. And to me, it's the same old KatPee: Beautiful, but not very talented.

Ken Tucker, the TV critic for Entertainment Weekly, said this about Katherine:
(I subscribe to the magazine, I can't seem to find the review online, otherwise I'd post it)
"Hilty, a curvy, energetic bombshell is so obviously superior to the blank-eyed, wan McPhee as both a performer and an embodiment of Monroe that the show's search for a star already feels strained."
So... the show might be worth watching for Katharine's acting alone, apparently it's LULZ worthy.

Sorry charlie. Coming right after the highly rated The Voice, Smash kept almost 11 1/2 million of those veiwers and won its time slot. So the 1st episode of Smash was a smash.
The PR says Spielberg himself asked for McPhee so we'll probably be stuck with her as long as this show is on. Much like Fringe is stuck with the blonde dud who just so happens to be R. Murdock's niece.
Personally, I thougth the audition scene with Kat worked well since she probably reminded the judges that before she was Marilyn she was a raw talented Norma Jean.

They did lose 20% of their audience after half an hour -- probably all of McTatas they could stand.

Quote "rem": The PR says Spielberg himself asked for McPhee My God Man, what happened to your TASTE!!!??? AND, I'm not surprised at ratings; in addition, to The Voice lead - in, and literally dozens of tv ads per day, there was an animated ad when I logged into yahoo, yesterday. Those Fuckers
