I was wondering has anyone here seen "Dance Moms"? It airs on Tuesday nights 9E/8C on Lifetime and it follows this woman named Abby Lee Miller who runs this dance school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The moms on this shows are always complaining about what is going on but still allow their kids to dance there. It has to be the most stressful show on tv but for some reason I can't look away.

Bizarrely watchable. I cannot explain why. The dance teacher is like a Disney villain. She needs about four years of therapy [that is a serious estimate from an experienced mental patient]. The moms, instead of withdrawing their kids on approximately the second day of their acquaintance with Abby Lee, stay and engage in a constant passive-aggressive battle with her. The kids are so sweet and don't deserve to be dragged through what amounts to the dance version of a puppy mill.

I watched the show when it first came out but by the third or fourth epi, I couldn't take anymore of those moron moms' terrible overacting, let alone Abby's braying. I live in a community where probably 50% of the moms act like the ones on this show so I don't need to see them on my tv too. Oh, and I dislike "acrodancing". Gymnastics or dancing....pick one.

Abby Lee Miller is a saint for putting up with those nutjobs. If she didn't love dance, she'd have been living in a padded room years ago thanks to those mothers. I've dealt with crazy arts parents before. They just don't get how everyone can't be a superstar.
Does Abby cross the line? Only when the parents display their ignorance. I only wish she would call the cops more often when dealing with the violent ones like Christie. The only miserable kid in the class was Brook and she quit for cheerleading. All the other kids love Miss Abby. The parents are the ones who don't get it.

Ah yes, another guilty pleasure. I love all their fancy dancing. Too bad these students aren't taught proper body position and form. That scrawny Chloe does the weirdest thing with her hip while doing the Abby Lee version of ballet. Turn out? who every heard of turnout?

Oh jawa, you took the words right out of my mouth! I was a dancer (tap, ballet, jazz) for 15 years. Now all the dance studios are too worried about these damned competitions instead of teaching proper form. I'll bet none of the kids on this show even know what barre work is.
I'm so glad I only have a son. Our area is supersaturated with dance moms like these. They have more money than they could ever possibly spend and no careers, so their hobby is projecting their own dreams onto their kids.
And yet, I can't turn the channel. The only mom I can stand is Dr. Holly (go figure, the only educated one in the group).

I love that crazy candy apples bitch. Even when she cheats, she loses.
BTW, there's no way that's her daughter. She obviously nabbed the little girl selling chiclets on the other side of the border.
I keep hoping she starts a brawl with Abbey's psycho moms.

This show is a complete trainwreck, but that doesn't make it any less fun to watch! It's just a giant, delightful heap of WTF.

RiP, it's clear that the Candy Apple lady adopted little Vivi because no man would have her and she desperately wanted children. And her little girl hates everything her mama forces her to do.

Oh, the Candy Apples bitch. Always bringing the lulz.
And "new mom"... what's her name, Jill? Oh my God. The massage thing this week had me rolling. Like my mom always says, "The difference between a brown-nose and a shithead is depth." That woman's got ALL the depth.

I thought I was the only one that noticed that the girls do not have proper technique. Maddie is the worst offender and yet she wins everything. WTF?

Abby Lee Miller sends her kids to the not as competitive dance circuit. A few of my students were talking about her main tournament circuit earlier this year and were laughing at how easy it is to win those titles. Plus, she pushes high art with stunts, not traditional dance techniques. It's quite telling that Nia can never win a non-ethnic competition because she's given choreography that requires proper technique. But as soon as Nia or Brooke is tossing about like a pretzel onstage, they medal.

Let's not forget Abby Lee herself is the bestest hot mess on the show! As for technique, the advanced classes at the studio I attended were taught by a little French Canadian, in French... blah blah body position (arm, head and foot position inclusive) battement tendu blah blah gibberish. Eight times. "Understand? Do."

^ Mine was like that too. Only my dance teacher was an Arkansawyer giving us her best French. So yeah, French in a Southern accent. That's not confusing at all.

I was wondering is the the norm to have to mom's in attendance while the lessons are going on because it just seems odd to me. And to think Dr. Holly gets shit from Abby and the other women because she' actually has a job and is not there all the time. The craziest, the most in denial and the one I can't stand is Melissa. When Chrissy and Kelly call her out on her shit she all of sudden doesn't want to talk about it and yet she thinks they are jealous of a 9 yr old. WTF??? When they were in LA to do that music video Melissa invited the producer of the video out to lunch to figure out how Maddie could get the lead when he clearly said the was looking for a girl who looked liked the singer. (Maddie looked nothing like her.)The when Chloe won, Melissa and Abby were all like "It's better that Maddie didn't get the lead b/c some casting director might see her and snatch her up. Maddie was barely shown in the music video
I also have to question the studio's so-called "prestige" because I don't think a studio with prestige would be that unorganized. If she's the best in Pittsburgh lord knows what... and I have a feeling this show will have a spin-off.

I can't speak for dance studios, but I can confirm that stage moms and dads sit through every practice their precious little snowflake is scheduled for in musical theater productions until they're in high school. The smart ones keep their mouths shut. The dumb ones start shit during rehearsals. I like playing with the dumb ones.

My daughter went to plain ol' dance lessons when she was little and we were firmly discouraged from hanging around. The only time we were welcome was one of the rehearsals right before we got hit up for the costume/ recital fees. Of course, we weren't flying our kids from coast to coast, weekend after weekend in competitions like these kids.
So from what I understand, the ultimate goal for these kids (and moms) is for the kid to end up on Broadway or SYTYCD?

^^According to Abby Lee Miller most of her former students are either on Broadway, dance at Disney theme parks, and shows in Vegas. Her goal is for them to be employable dancers.
Jill buying a bench for the studio, I have to wonder what she will do next buy Abby a new studio?

Is dancing at Disney theme parks a big thing? I thought it was just like dancing on a cruise ship.

Don't pole dancers count as employable dancers? That's the future I see for most of Abby's students.

I didn't know it took years of training to dance around in a hippo character outfit.
