Quote "NikkiM1976": Hi therevolution, It's not so much that everyone is against you here, or however you took the replies... It's that you're taking a karaoke show SO SERIOUSLY. American Idol does not produce famous stars. They don't. The last "star" they made was Carrie Underwood. The previous star they made was Kelly Clarkson. Every other "winner" in between has been a failure. Why, if you're a LEGITIMATE artist, would you WANT to be on this show? You said something in your first post about how "singing in bars and clubs just isn't doing it" (pardon my paraphrasing), but honestly, it's the singing in bars and clubs that GETS you to the famous road. Of course, not everyone that performs in the shitty venues makes it. But certainly, being on a karaoke show gets you even less. You lose your credibility, you lose yourself as an artist. All AI wants are people they can mold into singing whatever dreck Kara Dioguardi writes. You have to realize that Idol is going to give you the "asshat" edit. They are not going to scrap all that time they spent on you---no, they're going to make you look like a delusional fucking retard. It's sad. But true. Anyway, Good luck.
Hey, Nikki, sorry to leave you out. To be honest, Kara Dioguardi isn't all that bad a song writer. Other than that, I certainly don't disagree with any of your points. Most people who hit the legitimate big time, meaning what NO Idol artist has ever done, do "pay their dues" locally for years before they see the light of day.
My reason for wanting to be on the show was plain and simple, exposure. Reality TV can get you somewhere, at the very least it is a short cut to D list fame and it is not that unrealistic a goal to grind and do the jobs as a D Lister and one day eventually be at the top of the heap, at least for a very moment.
And at this point, I am really curious as to how they will use the footage. Except for my audition in front of the celeb judgres, everything else would be pretty hard to edit to look delusional.
Anyways, I found your posts to be the most earnest and well meaning, so for that, thank you.

Quote "fieldmi": ^I agree with you that "The Network" is an incredible film - and that is all you needed to say to reveal yourself! It is ironic that "The Network" stars Peter Finch, a Brit who migrated to Australia. Brits star in films, Americans star in movies! Brits/Australians take Aural Training; Americans take Ear Training! Folks, therevolution is not an American and certainly not a Houston native bent out of shape because the New Jersey audition shortened the Houston audition cycle. therevolution is obviously an AI staffer, probably the one assigned to monitor the VFTW site, who decided to fill some down time by trying to get us to take umbrage at the way the Houston auditioners were treated. therevolution is a Brit and/or Australian (similar to Nigel's son Simon, an AI producer) who knows too much about the AI audition process and too little about the realities of an aspiring musician's life. There are too many red herrings in therevolution's teal dear postings for them to be real. The core issue is that he ostensibly comes here to bitch about the mistreatment of the Houston auditioners; but when we don't take the bait, he too readily abandons the core issue to launch a point by point rebuttal. The intent was obviously getting a rise out of VFTW. Many have pointed out that he writes like an old man but purports to be in his twenties. He thanks us for complimenting him on his use of the English language - no American would use that phrase. Only a Brit who thought it was ironic that Americans would have the hubris to say anything about using language well would use that phrase (or a non-native ESL student but I don't think that is the case here). This piece of fiction is riddled with purposeful misspellings - the funniest one is misspelling Lythgoe / Lythegoe while trying to convince us he is your best buddy and thinks you are the world's best singer. So therevolution, good try - actually too good. If you were indeed on our side, you would know that we think the people who audition are idiots who get what they deserve. It is not enough to be delusional, as you tried so hard to appear, one has to be sublimely delusional. You, sir, are a limey but are not sublime. Good night!
You should definitely win posting of the year for this eloquently well put conspiracy theory. At this point, I sincerely wish I was a spy sent by the industry to calculate and measure the Vote For The Worst juggernaut, fighting in the trenches so that Scotty and Lauren can be the Tim McGraw and Faith Hill of the future!
The Revolution Will Be Televised, one patronizing country music promotional video at a time!

I found your post very informative, it goes hand in hand with a lot of what I have read on other blogs and to a degree in the "American Idol truth" book, but I have to ask..
How legitimately true is it that the winner's circle[or at least people that make it to televised competition] is already handpicked by 19E before the competition started?

Sorry to disappoint you crazy conspiracy theorists, but this person is legitimate. He even went as far as to try to hide all of his musical performances that he had on the internet in preparation for Idol. He's honest.

Well that was pretty fucking stupid. How do you expect to get fans if no one can find you on the internet? Cardin McKinney had 300 pages of tarding at IDF before she ever appeared on the show just from her MySpazz music. You obviously don't have what it takes.

thefunnystone - why did you have to spoil our fun? We weren't done playing with this wannabe. I do hope they show the "motivational speech" edited to have the judges No's jump cut into it.
therevoltingone: 'You have to try harder! Randy: "NO" therevoltingone: 'You have to practice longer hours! Steven: "NO" therevoltingone: 'You have to want it more! J-Lo: "NO"
Then it cuts to the scene from Animal House with Bluto smashing the guitar of the lousy folk singer.

Here is where you lost me. Have you heard "No Boundaries"? "Open Toes"? That shitty Gwen Stefani song? The one with nothing but "ooh hoo OOH HOO ooh hoo OOH HOO" in it?
If you can provide an example of ONE good Kara "song"...I will be impressed.

Nikki, I've heard the Gwen Stefani song, and it is the bane of my existence. There was a point in time in which I couldn't go to a basketball game without hearing the damn chorus. Annoying in every sense of the word.
I managed to find three decent songs though.
04. "Ain't No Other Man" [Christina Aguilera] 04. "Bella Traición" [Belinda] 02. "I Do Not Hook Up" [Kelly Clarkson]
I suppose that it's true, if I could only find three songs out of hundreds that are worth listening to, then she must be a pretty bad song writer.
Hilary Duff's Dignity was a solid piece of lite dance pop, but I don't know just how much Kara has to do with any of it.
There are some horrible songs on there though..read through the wikipedia..it gets worse than the Gwen Stefani song. I'll give a pass to her work that's obviously music for kids but there's "legitimatE" pop music on there that is simply abyssmal.

^All it would have taken was two words, 'Kara Sucks', to get a small shred of your dignity back but you managed to fuck up that opportunity with another tl;dr
Unless some radio station implements a format of playing ten minute long whines you are never going to be anything in the music business. So we should all say thank you to the Idol judges and get on with our lives. Go check to see if T-Mobile or Sprint are hiring. I use AT&T so please don't go there because as much as you don't want to be behind the counter, I don't want to take a chance of dealing with you next time I walk in.

Never mind "Open Toes", Kara had a "hand" in writing a song called "My Bra" (apparently a serious song about breast cancer survivors), but its still on the silly side
But seriously folks, if you want to talk about halfway decent songs that she had a hand in writing, there's Kelly Clarkson's "Walk Away" and "One Minute", and Pink's "Sober."
Speaking of motivational speeches, here's the greatest one of all time:

Good lord, this thread is too much to read!
If you want to spend your life playing lame ass Idol retrospective shows at casinos or picnics somewhere in bumfuck places, then fine. Otherwise, it's a waste of time. Which means you will have no career in the real music industry. No one cares after 3 months or so. THAT is why they stop you from recording or performing until they let you loose from their grip.

I suggest you abandon the pipe dream now and start working towards a realistic goal. You will thank me later. I told this to a prior contestant, they didn't listen and they are now living in their car. Is this what you want for yourself? This is the best advice you can get. I suggest you take it.

This thread is pretty hilarious. Getting famous has very little to do with "talent" or luck, it's all about being smart. So do you live in Texas? Because if you're bashing country music videos I'm gonna assume you're not a big fan of country and that's a problem. Find your style and move to a place that's known for that music. When industry scouts are out looking for somebody, that's where they're gonna head. What's your story? That you were known for your vocal talents and that everything ended perfectly for you? Great! Head to Broadway. The industry is about selling packages and nobody wants the person who had everything handed to them. Gain a little life experience, and no, that doesn't include "working" for idol for less than a week. Can you blatantly lie and have it come off as natural and honest? If not then I wouldn't even try. You care way too much and it shows. If the judges don't like you, thank them for the opportunity (in a sincere, not spiteful tone) and leave with your dignity intact. Don't try to sing again unless they ask you. Learn a little modesty. I don't care what the reasons are that you didn't go through, you don't go around telling excuses as to why you didn't get in. All that's gonna do is burn bridges. If the producers liked you as much as you believe then you should have waited until next year and auditioned again. You might've even made it since they could give you the story of: "He tried last year and none of the judges liked him, but since then he's taken the time to practice and hone his skills and look at him now!" But you're posting your story everywhere and I doubt that's gonna fly. As long as you're kind and seem genuine to everyone you meet, something good will happen. You never know who that person is or going to be. If you can manage that then be patient and wait your turn. If people like you they'll slowly work the machine in your favor, but it takes time. And lastly, don't confuse arrogance with confidence. That's the difference between your average star and a reality star. Never forget that as talented as you are, there are hundreds and thousands of people just like you waiting for a shot. The only thing standing in anyone's way is likeability, which as far as I can tell, you don't have. No, stating the obvious and calling it a pep talk is not a likeable quality. It makes you come off as a douche. For future reference.
