I think he made it up for attention. He says he's from New York and lived in Atlanta, but on Idol he was from Wisconsin and BFF's with Gokey. Doesn't add up at all...

so... he lied when he said he had cancer 3 years ago on AI, right? i don't think idol has enough guts to pimp an HIV+ drug addict. and are people really surprised that a drug addict has a string of minor arrests, a million bills, and 20 addresses for the last 2 years?

i dunno, if he acts like a major douche or mentions his disease every time he's on camera (which he has so far) then i'll hate on him for that. but i don't really see the funny in laughing at someone that's struggled/struggling with addiction.

I will say I know Jamar is hated here by way of Idol and Danny Gokey, and I do sorta wish that never happened and he had a fresh clean slate. Not because he would be a potential candidate or y'all would embrace him, but I don't know if the hate would be so sharp.

I love this board (stopped watching Idol this year, I can't deal with that shit anymore after 10 straight years. I can't even laugh at it) so I have to be guarded with what I'm saying, but I know Jamar and I realize there's no tarding. I'll just say this so it's not as hazy:

He was HIV pos and had been newly sober/in recovery while on Idol. He was afraid to talk to the Idol producers about the HIV positive diagnosis but they did indeed know about his prior drug use. Refused to talk about it to the audience. I mean, nothing could compete with Dead Wife anyway let's be real. He did have lymphoma as well, didn't lie about that. No lies whatsoever. A lot of it is what producers choose to run with.

Idol loves a good sob story as long as it's wholesome enough for their frauen audiences. Dead wives, divorced parents and cancer will always get greenlighted before drug use, HIV and other issues. They'd sooner approach someone with a vocal polyp than years of sobriety.

That's all I'm saying, hate on or don't. I just wish gross Danny wasn't associated with Jamar. dude has an actual sense of humor and the very thought of Danny obliterates anything positive. unfortunately.

Kashi, thanks. Although I'm not an addict, I am a psych patient, and anyone in recovery is a brother in arms and has my support.* For the sake of his sobriety I'm glad he wasn't in the Idol finals.

The dirt dug up on this thread is a fine illustration of how addiction leaves a huge swath of scorched earth behind it. If Jamar is truly on a new page, good. I for one will give him the benefit for the time being.
