That's just what they WANT you to think. I, for one, am far past the point of believing anything I see or hear on really any Idol show, or any Idol-related show, or anything with Idol in the title, etc., etc.

This girl was pretty good in an artist kind of way. She looks kinda cute too, but it'll take time to see if she's really likable.

When it comes to reality shows, TPTB will do anything.

Big Brother Aus - this season they've had a contestants father die and didn't tell her until she was eliminated, 3 weeks later. They also had one contestant who had suffered a still birth 18 months ago, gave her a robo-baby and told her to mother it. Noice.

In the first season of Aus BB (or possibly second) they used to have live cam streams on their site - and you could see the participants being handed 'conversation starter topics' on a sheet and told to discuss them on camera.

From what I gather, Steffi had a lot of personality. Kind of a bubbly, fun person. I don't get that impression at all from this girl. I can smell bitch from a mile away.

I think what we're getting at via the web design thing is that we can all agree that this is a rather well-designed site, that there was some time put into it, etc.

I personally don't think she's a plant, mainly because I don't think she's all that good. She can't sing soft jazz throughout the competition, so it would seem kind of stupid for the producers to choose her for a plant.

I don't get a sassy, entitled vibe from Carly right now. "Right now" is the key phrase here.

You can't fake a personality in the public eye forever. I've never heard of a single person who ever worked with Steffi and said anything negative about her character.

If Carly really is arrogant or mean, we'll know about it... either from fans on the CTV boards or how the judges act toward her as the season goes on.

As for her voice, it wasn't bad for the song she sang. She had a Corrina Bailey Rae (sp.?) tone to me, but who knows how versatile she'll be?

And FAG, you're right that this girl is the judges' pick for a Steffi-like person this year. However, I see a bit more of Theresa Sokyrka in Carly than Steffi though. And I doubt Carly is going to bring on the theatrics and choreography that made Steffi water-cooler talk last summer.

There will only ever be one Steffi. They are casting her as Steffi Mk II, but she's not going to be anywhere near as entertaining. Her style is too indy-girl-pop for Idol, so she might make a good VFTW pick if she tries to do everything in her style, whether it's appropriate or not, but there are better early picks.

I just watched some Steffi videos, including the eviction one. Wow she's great, that girl is something else. This midget who looks 12 is NOT Steffi. Even in eviction, Steffi was good humoured, happy and charismatic - there is not a nasty bone in that girls body. I don't think any of that could be said about Carly......

Carly isn't going to be quirky like Steffi no matter how TPTB want to cast her in that role. Carly doesn't have a chance in hell against a girl who believes in "bow power" and makes puppet clones of herself.

But I disagree that Carly is too indy-girl-pop for CI. In fact, I think her genre is a huge advantage to her, and it will make her marketable and anti-VFTW. She'll probably get 10 times the pimpage Steffi did.

Think about it. The judges loved Steffi because she was a cute, likable girl who could entertain and bring in ratings during an otherwise boring season.

But there's another reason why Steffi is so well-liked at VFTW: She was a fish out of water, and it was fun to watch her bend the rules.

Can you imagine what would've happened if she actually won CI? Broadway and standards don't make a platinum-selling CD, and her vocal style is a throwback to an earlier time. Sony and TPTB would've had a Taylor Hicks problem x10 on their hands. They probably would've forced Steffi to do Gwen Stefani stuff, but I don't know if her heart would've been into it.

On the other hand, look at Carly. Her voice has a neo-soul, contemporary vibe to it, and she can kind of play the guitar. But she still has a bubbly personality and a young look.

Zack and the others had dollar signs in their eyes during her audition. So even while Carly's diction sucked during her audition, that's why she got a unanimous yes vote while Steffi only got a 2-2 tie.

Well, she isn't Steffi alright. Carly Rae has a different singing style. If we're comparing her to another CI contestant, then the closest would be Theresa from CI2.

I think we're going to be seeing a lot of Cutsey Jepson! She's like Jewel and, correctly stated, Theresa S. Only worry: May be annoying. We'll see!

I agree that she is more like Theresa than Steffi D. Only you might want to throw some Lolita and Ashley Coles in there too.
