Like with many of the other alleged Top 50, I'm baffled. She can sing in two languages, and seemingly at least all right from what's available. She was in a post-Gloria Estefan version of MSM. She's pretty. She can dance. She seems like a lot of fun. What on Earth is she doing in a place like this?

Like I said elsewhere, it looks like TPTB have decided to ditch the "talented amateurs" that AI was built on in favor of contestants who have had professional experience. We started to see that with Melinda and Brandon Rogers last season and with most of the NGAB finalists.

Joey's right. I don't know who else has been going over the alleged Top 50's MySpaces, but this is a far different, and somewhat more accomplished group than in any year prior. Many have CDs out. Some have multiple CDs.

Check it out in the spoiler thread if you haven't already. It's all singer/songwriter, indie, emo/screamo, AC, acoustic, (in Lorena's case) Latin pop, you name it, all the genres that haven't made it on AI.

TPTB are really losing the plot, in that case. The main reason the average Schmo watches AI is because the people on it are like them and because they can sit there and say: "Heck, I could probably do better than that". If they put a bunch of accomplished Pros on instead, the ratings will go like a TV thrown out of a Hotel window.

Agreement here Joey. Perhaps we could even call in the Jordin Effect. OMG 17 doesn't sell records, so qualification # 1 for pimping now is past success in marketability somewhere. Take no chances from the start.

AI will pimp their plants and beat up the rest. No matter what they do, (I am talking to you, Nigel) we will find someone to support that will piss them off.

My guess is there will be at least one obvious VFTW condidate who won't stand a chance of picking up the kind of broad support that Sanjaya had and everyone else will be really hard for us to pick, unless we find something out about them that makes them a good choice (like Antonella and her Toilet photo).

Going from her Myspace, I'm assuming her interests include small shirts, bikinis and cleavage. If done correctly, this could be the best AI season ever for straight male Worsters (and Sab, our comrade in arms).

She is from Miami, and Louis from Deco Drive on FOX here is a dawg. He will be all over her with coverage if she makes the top 24. Should be a lot of local write ups and video pieces.

But she has a long ways to go. First loves die hard.

While I agree that Melinda was neck and shoulders above the rest and didn't really belong in an amateur competition, it really wasn't much use in Brandon's case. He still sucked anyway. But yeah I bet TPTB are gonna try to stack the deck with Melindas, Rubens, Kellys, and more
