Hey everyone, I just wanted to pass along what I've been hearing on the streets of Hollywood. Nigel was actually fired from Idol by Fox and Fremantle because he was unwilling to change the format of the show. He didn't quit like he's been saying. If you think about it this makes sense since old school peeps like Dolly Parton, Earth Wind and Fire, etc... were always on the show and now since he's left the show it has completely changed it's format with the 4th judge and the new ideas being thrown around for next season; how they are going to focus more on the contestants and not on the auditions, etc...
Also, just so you know I work in the industry and live in Hollywood, so I kind of feel that this might actually be true, since I've heard it from numerous people.
If it's true it's interesting for sure. Makes me think some big wigs behind the scenes must be really worried about the show. |

I'm getting a great deal of pleasure out of the thought that someone called him into their office, sat across the desk from him and said the words "Nigel, we are no longer in need of your services". Then they walked him over to his cubicle, watched while he cleaned out his desk, took his key to the building and escorted him out with his cardboard box to the curb.

Nigel is still president of 19 Television, so it's not like they kicked him to the curb.
I think they just realized the show needs some changes to keep it interesting. Having Simon more involved with the production side is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. |

Scanning the news, I see that Nigel is actually traveling around doing his dance show in South Africa and Canada. Maybe he did decide to try to have a hit in other markets and line his pockets as much as possible. He does seem to be much more interested in dance than singing.
I could also see Idol firing him, so who knows. Either way, thank god. |

I hope it's true. Either way he's out, and hopefully the show will become at least mildly more interesting. I don't honestly know why I care, because I don't believe that it will ever be anything other than a cheesefest, but I suppose I hold out some ridiculous hope that every once in a while the show will uncover some real talent that deserves exposure. With a few format changes it might do a little better. Maybe.
But it would still be gratifying to know that Nigel didn't leave willingly. |

Well, I'll say this for the crapfest, without it, we would never had had the pleasure of hearing Chile. Unfortunately, TPTB couldn't recognize actual talent if it came up and hit them in the schnoze, but she got the exposure she needed, and we got REAL rock for once.
Let's hope with Nigel gone, that part of things continues. |
