VFTW Radio 4/7/11 Celebrates an Idol Shocker

Pia Toscano's elimination shocked even the hosts of VFTW Radio, so listen in as Dave, Deb, Slack, and Sean react to the only marketable winner going home. There hasn't been this much cackling since Halloween. Listen as we discuss getting to an all male top 6, how Pia's elimination ranks in Idol history, and we get our first real hate call of the season.

I'm surprised that you guys actually think Pia was a good singer.


Yes, she can hit the notes but she never seemed to have any sense of lyrcism .

doesn't carress the words, modulate the attack on notes, no crescendo's on a word or leave us waiting for the instant for the tonic resolve.


I watch everything on Tivo and I've fast fowarded through half of her performances... forced myself to go back after hearing raving judges comments but just didn't see it.


I'm still watching saved Benny and the Jets and even "Blue" by Haley. She absolutely slayed Bennny .....that crecendoing growl and follow through on the phrase.. "oh" but they're weird and wonderful... was really mememerable, and I enjoyed the "s"s at the end of the Jets... like a little cymbal.


Anyway, back to Pia ... no special sauce.. I've enjoyed all the others left in some way or another... Stefano isn't interesting because he's so cheesy...he does approach the lyrics and has a some sense of timing though despite the cheese...they others all have some really good sense of phrasing.


I guess people have different opions..


I'd call Louis Armstrong a great singer (on top of the trumpte) .. his versions of songs will be played forever... not because of any purity of voice...

Another BTW on your comments on Lauren Alaina


I had a negative first impression of her with a number of ways she was shown during thet selection process and her first song, but I've come to like her as singer and an entertainer and person.


She's yet to nail a song in the competition rounds, but she does have great tone and transitioning to notes....


... what makes me think she's got big time potential was how she absolutely nailed that duet she did with scotty on last week's results show. She has a real sense for music and songs as well as a super voice.

In terms of people "most hated" right now, Haley's actually at the top. All the Piatards are RIPPING her apart for the smiling when Pia got voted off. It's all "OMG HOW DARE SHE, PIA IS SOOOO MUCH BETTER THAN THAT CRAPO HALEY!!!1!!" For them, Stefano is also to blame however.
