Nikki McKibbin Says Simon Cowell Ruined Her Life

American Idol season one third place finisher Nikki McKibbin tells US Magazine that Simon Cowell led her down the road to drugs and drinking. Nikki says, "I came out of Idol with a lack of self-confidence... I had never been told I wasn't good enough. Having to hear it for so many weeks from Simon Cowell killed me inside. I couldn't get the s--t he had said to me out of my head." While Simon is a jerk, and American Idol is a terrible show that only exists to embarrass people for ratings, why do so many fragile people try out before realizing that a singing star's life opens them up to immense criticism? Duh.

Simon's an asshole any way you cut it.

Blaming other people for your problems is just an excuse to not acknowledge that you are the cause of your own problems and therefore you do not have to be the one who is responsible for having to resolve them. Be accountable, Nikki.

You have to have thick skin to involve yourself with any reality type competition. I don't imagine Nikki is the only person to feel the adverse effects of being on AI.

Oh, boo hoo. Simon gave her harsh critiques because she deserved them. And he wasn't always awful to her -- he gushed over her performance of "Mary Jane." She should be grateful the public liked her enough to keep her around as long as they did. I'm sure many of her competitors envied her miraculous third place finish.

David Gee is right. The name of the game these days seems to be "pass the buck/blame someone else". Whether Simon is or is not an asshole is irrelevant. If the chick is so weak that a couple of critiques sends her speeding down the path of self-destruction, she never should have auditioned in the first place.

Yeah, the girl is a bit of a retard for trying to blame Simon for her problems. Perhaps she should blame her own parents, based on the fact that she "had never been told [she] wasn't good enough."

The world would be a much better place if more parents would stop babying their children and give them a dose of reality every now and then. If that were the case, we wouldn't have these Paris Hiltons, Britney Spearses, and countless other talentless freaks thinking that they are owed everything just because Mommy and Daddy never told them how worthless they are.

Thank god my parents beat me to the point of hospitalization on a regular basis, or else I wouldn't be the well-rounded, thoughtful, intelligent individual I am today.

Now pardon me while I go abduct yet another hooker.

Simon fans are here?? While Nikki may indeed suck, Simon is still a consummate asshole.

I didn't watch season one (except the finale), but I would assume that she lasted as long as she did largely BECAUSE of Simon's comments. That often causes people to vote for someone to stick it to Simon. I mean, how many VFTW pics has he started being nice to in hopes that people will stop voting for them?! And I agree with those of you who said Ms. McKibbin should take responsibility for her own life....

As usual, people make excuses for the choices they make. No one tied her down and forced those drugs and booze down her throat.

She's probably just pissed because out of all the AI seasons, she's probably the only third-place finisher who didn't get any kind of attention (meaning: record deals) after the season ended.

I'm sorry that Nikki dealt with her addiction. But to start blaming someone else for your problems is ridiculous. If she didn't like the critisism, why did she even try-out for the show? Being a celebrity is all about criticsm. Can't take the heat, life of a celebrity is not for you.
