Kelly Clarkson Makes the Stupidest Decision of Her Career

Kelly Clarkson made headlines last year for her public tussle with Clive Davis over wanting to not sell out and instead record her own music. After a failed album, we guess Kelly has decided to sell out. MJ's Big Blog found this photo on producer Howard Benson's MySpace. It's captioned "Me, Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry at recording session for duet." God no! Kelly, what are you thinking? You don't need this tool to record new music. He looks like an evil turd. Kelly Clarkson just went down 500 cool points in our book. Hopefully she puts out a decent album and the duet is just for some stupid Idol promo. What a shame!

A quote from Kelly Clarkson in an LA Times interview (May 6, 2007) *BEFORE* My December's release (All caps mine):

"...I just needed to be able to make this record and not have so many hands in the cookie jar saying, ‘Pull this string, pull that string.’ I was like, ‘JUST GIVE ME THIS ONE THING, AND I WILL MAKE WHATEVER RECORD YOU WANT NEXT TIME.' Now, I need this, for me.”

Ok, so before everyone pulls out the "she sold out" card, let's actually discuss some of the other things we know about her upcoming album aside from this.

Despite what this blog makes it look like, she is not selling out the record company. In fact, the new big whigs that are overseeing the project have specifically told her that they'll market anything that she brings to them. Kelly realizes that she had her opportunity to produce what she wanted with My December, but has learned from the mistakes of that era as well... AKA the apparent lack of communication and strategy with the record label. In order for her to sell what she wants, she needs to actually keep her name selling strong. Otherwise, she has no career at all. I'm glad she realizes this, but I'm even gladder that she is STILL WRITING FOR THE NEW RECORD. Yes, she's not selling out, it's more like a compromise... she chooses all of the songs that she wants on the record, and gets creative control as she has gotten with previous albums. In fact, we already know of two songs that she's worked on for the album called "I Finally Got it Right" (sequel to Irvine) and "Cry".

Also, let's wait to hear what this duet actually sounds like before we bash it, shall we? Chris Daughtry is a very talented musician that just happens to get a lot of mainstream success. Sure, the move was probably intended to generate positive buzz for the album, but regardless they're two compatible musicians that can definitely come up with something amazing.

Meanwhile, everyone should REALLY be looking forward to this album. The label is very hush hush about it right now, but that's because they have some big names working on it. Ryan Tedder is working on it, who as we all know is a very talented songwriter and producer. Kelly confirmed that she finished recording for this album a few days ago, which means it won't be long until we hear her first single from the album. Keep an eye out for new music!

Well, you just invalidated your entire opinion.

No, he's not. Working with Ryan Tedder is the definition of selling out.

I hope the duet gets cut from the album or is only a bonus track in some far away country.

Him being a jerk/tool/egomaniac doesn't change the fact that he can sing..

Kelly has always been the one Idol I feel tardy about, cause she can actually sing. Maybe she is attempting to remind people of that by comparing her voice to the goat's? Ugh, it could only be worse if it was Constantcrap. She should sing with Sligh, he actually can sing.
