I thought the comment from jumptheshark was pretty ignorant. The family already seriously failed. Starting 1980 they were worth 80-100 million and lost it all due to a crooked financial manager. They never recovered the money, but instead of declaring bankruptcy, sold everything they had and paid off their debts. Donny bombed in a Broadway show called LIttle JOhnny Jones and when he made his comeback in 1988, DJ's kept his identity of the singer of Soldier of Love secret until it caught on because no one wanted to play a good goody Osmond song. The 2 eldest nonsinging Osmonds are profoundly deaf (which is why they went into show business in the 1st place-to pay for hearing aids), the next oldest and leader of the original group has had MS for 20 years, the next had a brain tumour and nearly died, the next suffered from depression, the next one as well. Donny struggled with panic attacks and Marie from post partum depression.(David Osmond has MS as well which can affect among other things, his speech, balance and ability to recall words and difficulty hearing. These symptoms can get worse under stress. Kudos to him for trying.) Through it all the family perseveres and keeps true to their values. I think they are an inspiration. You couldn't meet a more giving group of people. They also started the Children's Miracle Network which raises money for sick children and 100% of the profits goes to those children. Not bad for a bunch of toothy Mormons. By the way, gets your facts straight-- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is not a cult.
