While the judges gave unkind critiques to many of last night's contestants, most of the comments were not rude; the judges described in words the horrificness of most of last night's performances. I won't single any one out, there were many terrible performances last night and the judges didn't pull any punches in enumerating the ways the contestants erred in their individual performances.

There were a small handfull of decent to good peformances last night. Let's compare two: Tataina's and Danny's, the last two, saved for the night's two best performances.

Tatiana surprised me. In spite of any personality issues, Tatiana sang Whitney during the auditions and made the top 36 for a reason, she can sing. Yes, her personality issues overshadowed her singing ability, and I had forgotten why she was on the show.

Tatiana can sing. I honestly thought she was the best singer of the night. Her voice is beautiful. Her tone is amazing. Her control skilled enough to make taking on a Whitney song seem nearly effortless. I think her control slipped twice in the second half of the song, so although the best singer with the best voice last night, her performance was not quite as good as Danny's, leaves room for improvement, but was far and away easily top 12 caliber. The audience recognized the amazing performance with one of only two standing ovations it gave the contestants last night.

Danny was the pimped one, riding a wave of pity and sympathy, using his wife's death in a ghoulish drive into the top 36. It really wasn't needed, his church performance honed singing is really quite good. Danny's voice isn't the best in the competition, but like other voice challenged performers like Willie Nelson, Jerry Garcia, and Elvis Costello, Danny knows how to use what God has given him and how to pick the songs that will allow him to best showcase what tatents he does possess. Danny knows, from using his wife's death to picking an easy song with lyrics to remind you of his personal tragedy, how to market Danny. Marketing Danny is almost a business to Danny at this point.

The judges reaction to Tatiana's surprisingly stellar performance was to largely ignore it, ignore the audience reaction - the only standing ovation to that point - and instead to goad her. Simon asked Tatiana to tone it down while in Hollywood, she listened to him, gave him the behavior he asked for, and the best female performance of the night, and all Simon can do is ask her to laugh. Kara and Paula, without 1/10th of Tatiana's gift, criticized her for her reserved; they, knowing full well the meaning of the phrase "it takes one to know one", asked Tatiana for the 'crazy'. Only Randy, of all the judges, offered any critique of her performance, and overall he was both impressed and surprised.

Conversely, I could smell the cougar estrus through my television as Kara and Paula screamed their worshipful approval of Danny's smartly sung performance when he finished singing. Only Simon held back from a total crowning of Danny as this year's American Idol before most of the season has played out.

It is a tale of two different standards being applied by the judges, one for the surprisingly solidly crafted and delivered performance by Tatiana that defied the prejudged comments the judges had prepared, and the other for the chosen one, the pimped one, who delivered an excellent performance of an easily sung song.

Monkeynuggets: Jesus Christ, it just dawned on me why I hate Hokey so much. He's a Cook clone, only with a dead wife ?_? This is serious business. He's not getting booted for a while, although I doubt, thank goodness, he'll end up winning this god-awful competition because Cook stole his thunder before he even had a chance.

Why do the tards also seem to be the ones who show their ignorance by throwing around the word "gay" as if it means something it does not?

I think it is hilarious how everyone on here "THINKS" they can make a difference by voting for the worst person. That mexican you voted for was hilarious also. If she would've been all drama queen, she might have been good for the show, but no, she was real. REAL FAKE and her singing sucked. Cya next week

Wow, the word "fabulous" has now officially been used to describe Tatiana Del Toro. That is about as crazy as it gets. She needs to get her huge ass back on whatever boat she came here from Puerto Rico on and get back to her job as a prostitute ASAP. Some words that could be used to sum up TDT's personality include:

annoying

narcissistic

self-absorbed

over-dramatic

pathetic

desperate

Now even if you love her, you have to agree that almost all of those words do indeed describe her.
