When they used to have the "wild card" show, they would bring back people from any earlier point in the season.

One of my favorite Idol moments was when they brought back some chick named Alison who sang "Angel" by Sarah McLaughlin. She sang it for her audition and then sang it in Hollywood and the judges were all kicking themselves and saying they really goofed and how did Alison slip through the cracks, etc? So they brought her back for the wild card episode and she sang "Angel" again and the all-time best Paula comment was "You only sing Angel".

But think about it. There's nothing wrong with bringing people back from earlier on. With the 36 that were chosen for this round, some of them really stunk and made the judges regret picking them over some others that were eliminated. These 36 had their big chance. Some did well, but lost their spot to Michael Sarver. Some sucked.

What I'm seeing alot this year is people getting in front of the live audience, probably decent singers in fairness, and just choking. Not everyone can be a megachurch music director/necropimp.
