The "Twist" May Not Suck As Bad As We Thought

MJ's Big Blog has an interview up with Ken Warwick, one of the producers of Idol. In the interview, Ken says this new twist was tried out in the French version of Idol, Nouvelle Star, first. If that's the case, it may not be that the judges eliminate whoever they want from the bottom 3. The twist previously attempted during Nouvelle Star was that the judges get a veto power that they can use only one time during the season. So if the judges think that America got the vote completely wrong, only once during the season, they can save the person who was going to go home. This rule is much less obnoxious than the "sing for your life" scenario, but still, why give the judges (i.e. the producers telling the judges what to do) any power? They wouldn't know entertainment if it bit them in the ass. So what do you think? If the twist is a one-time judge veto, how would you feel about that?

How stupid. They'll probably use it when Deadwife gets the boot prematurely. Thus, ruining our VFTW victory.

With 4 judges, you are still looking at 4 freaking weeks where they are trying to save some lost cause. What if that person gets in the bottom again? You can have a week with 2 or 3 being eliminated! Slightly better but still ridiculous to me.

...well, when you think of the millions they lost when Daughtry got the boot

He clearly didn't need to "win" Idol, but Idol needed him to win.

So that means Danny could just stand on the stage and talk about his wife and still be safe...

<So if the judges think that America got the vote completely wrong

And just where do they get off saying America got it "wrong?" If they really think they know what's best for us, then make the judges' scores 50 percent of the results, a la Dancing. Either you believe in tyranny of the majority or you don't. They need to knock off this mamby pamby crap.

Who doesn't think this wasn't put into place specifically to save Dorkey? We're gonna have to beat him twice now to get his dead-wife-pimpin' ass off the show.

I think this is a terrible idea. One of the attractions of the show was when your favorite barely made it through. It made the viewers feel like their votes counted for something. Sure your favorite may not win, but keeping them in longer was still a victory. With the change, if your favorite is likely to be one of the bottom vote getters, there is no point in voting.

Not much of a twist, is it? I would say they might use it to save Allison, if she does go down this week, but I think they will save it for Danny, Adam, Alexis, or Lil, if necessary. They don't want another Michael Johns outcry, me thinks.

Was there a Michael Johns outcry? I thought he was bad. They are going to use this when one of their favorites gets in the bottom.
