Well...I happen to LOVE Susan Boyle! She sings way better than anyone on American Idol right now. I'm afraid TPTB are going to use her for as long as they can, then dump her. Which would be sad. And I have no problem with Susan getting her hair done. Hey! If it helps her self-confidence, go for it! If I was in her place, I'd get my hair done, too! I hope she wins BGT, but if not, I hope she gets a good manager who will look out for her best interests and land her a record contract.

You have to wonder exactly what qualifications these judges have to decide whether or not Britain actually has talent.

Simon Cowell - we all know about him.

Piers Morgan - former cheap and nasty tabloid newspaper editor famous for manipulating stories, who got sacked for knowingly printing fake photos of British soldiers torturing Iraqi prisoners.

Amanda Holden - former bit-part actress who got famous because she was married to a washed up comedian twenty years her senior and had an affair with a big name sitcom star. After that the offers came flooding in, and her now ex-husband managed to revive his career off it as well so win-win.

The Susan Boyle thing was good television. The people who made the programme knew what they were doing and did it well. What happened since could probably only happen on a British show because this is what the UK tabloid press do best, feed crappy manipulative hard-luck stories to a gullible public. Sadly, in this instance they managed to send it global.

The judges are well aware that the contestants on the show are pre-screened and the only ones who get onto the big stage are the very good, the very bad or the ones with an interesting story. I don't know if they know in advance which are which, but it wouldn't surprise me. As Paul Merton said on Have I Got News For You this week, that jaw-dropping expression from Amanda was simply a matter of she's in the entertainment industry, she knows she's got a camera trained on her, and she knows it makes good television.

So essentially, Susan Boyle has managed to break two world records. First, the record number of youtube hits. And second, the world record for being patronised by the largest number of people all at once.

Meh, she sings ok if you like Doris Day. Since those kind of singers can look like hell and make it, I don't see the problem. Striesand was no beauty queen after all. I don't understand all the hoopla over Lambert. I don't give a crap he's gay - so was freddy mercury and he was the bomb. The thing with Lambert is that he goes from sounding like a regular dull egg to a boy with a helium addition...another meh, he should stick to theatre. I also don't understand the Gokey hate - I mean I wasn't fazed by the wife thing, everybody has a story after all. But he hasn't brought her up in a long time. He has a pretty cool voice, kind of like a mellow joe cocker or something. He looks gooney, but I have to imagine a make-over stylist can make him presentable. Chris is cute, but the funny faces have to go - - although my mum was saying the other day that a famous old artist named jonny mathis used to stretch his face this way and that and got away with it - so I guess he'll be all right. He sings pretty good, but his songs kind of bore me to death. Actually, most of Gokey's bore me to death too, but he does have a good voice and doesn't sound like he's tweaking the helium bottle. Nonetheless, all of them, including Susan could make a career out of something I'd have to imagine. I just can't imagine ever buying any of their offerings...

I am not so anti-SB as I am anti-media. They shove this shit down our throats until we puke, then they feed us our puke. The media is the blame here as they usually are.

I agree with you. I actually, think she is a fairly good singer -- I like her voice, but that doesn't change the fact that if she was some hot 20 year old, there wouldn't be this much attention. Apparently, people around the world think unattractive people (as perceived by the majority) can't sing, which is a ridiculous assumption. Vocal talent has nothing to do with looks.

Anyway, I like her voice, and I do think she's talented, though I agree..the main reason she's SO popular and breaking youtube records, etc, is because of her looks, and that's kind of sad. It shows how stupid people are these days. Wow, an unattractive person can be talented, who would have thought! Ridiculous.

Is it a bad thing though, that people like her and she's being recognised for her obvious vocal talent? No. So yeah..I agree, no need to be so cynical about it, she's obvious a good person, and talented. Why someone would be sending the videos here though..I'm not sure.
