Could Simon's "I think you're still safe" comment have been forthe purpose of lulling the Gokey tards into a sense of security so they wouldn't vote too hard?

Well maybe they lied and actually got thru part of the dress rehearsal, and it was Gokey's golden note that caused the explosion and all the ensuing chaos...which is why they didn't admit to it.... :)
