Idol does the homecoming routine for the top 4 because they need at least a week to get everything in place. They can't wait until tonight to find out who makes it and still have everything in place for this weekend. The 4th place guy last year (Dreadlocks IIRC) had his homecoming deal but it never aired because he was gone. I guess it would be bad PR to give someone the boot and then cancel their parade too.
