Nigel Lythgoe is Still a Homophobic Jerkoff

Nigel Lyhtgoe continues to be a homophobic asshole even off of American Idol. The former Executive Producer of American Idol and current Executive Producer of So You Think You Can Dance said last year that he hates "effeminate boys that mince around the stage." Then these guys (above) tried out for So You Think You Can Dance and he slammed them for possibly alienating the show's audience. Nigel then tweeted, "I am very sad the word ‘homophobe’ is being used. That is someone who hates homosexuals. I dislike effeminate dancing! Wake up and listen! I believe overtly effeminate dancing destroys the opportunity for many male dancers to be supported. Being gay doesn’t mean effeminate." What a moron. Is it any coincidence tha once Nigel left Idol, we then finally had a gay contestant do well on the show without being mocked? Homophobic Nigel just continues to put his foot in his mouth. (News via MJ's Big Blog, we sure won't watch So You Think You Can Dance)

A lot of straight male dancers are like Nigel. Trying to combat the stereotypes that all male dancers are gay, turns them into homophobes. Given that a lot of male dancers ARE gay, it's a pretty stupid attitude and one that I think makes you dangerous in the art because it turns you against a lot of potential participants.

Worster from a far away land

Nobody says that Nigel has to "like them" but to turn them down just because of that (regardless of their profesional capabilities) is just plain retarted.

Although for the record, this season had a gay guy who went really far because this year had the *BIGGEST* number of gays on Idol ever. Von, Jorge, Scott, Adam, Nathantiel and probably so many other I don't recall at the moment.

It might also indicate something on Nigel's leaving...

So Nigel doesn't like "effeminate dancing", huh?? Well thanks to the handy tags at the top of the thread, it took me no time to find another thread from last year: Link

I'd describe Nigel's dancing as pretty effeminate. In fact, I'd generally describe Nigel as effeminate, so I'm not sure why he's casting that as an aspersion on others. I saw the episode this week and didn't think that either dancer was strong enough to do well on the program. They sent them through to choreography, which seemed generous to me. Why he is prolonging the story by Tweeting about it is beyond me??

Did you notice the voice-over as they left the stage? She said: "So Mitch isn't out yet and Misha's sticking around too." At the beginning of the clip Mitch says he's straight while Misha declares himself to be gay. There is no chance that "isn't out yet" was anything other than a very intentional reference to that.

Nigel is a waste of skin, but he may have a point about gay not equating to effeminate. But in his case, it's no doubt a cop-out.
