I was in australia recently, i saw an episode of australian idol. their judges are more of a joke than randy and show seems more fixed. on the upside they don't have results shows

it's pretty screwed up that the "singers" don't have any rights to their work

Yeah, the S7 Idols confirmed they received money for their iTunes sales, and the S8 Idols have said various times that they do receive a cut. I think only in S6 did the Idols not receive any (or much) money, and that was because it was the first time selling performance mp3s (as I recall) and they did it off the American Idol website, so it was more like a trial run.

SC - If Carly Smithson ever tells you to expect a sunny day?  Take an umbrella.  :c )

As for the stipend they receive for the time they spend in the recording studio fo the I-Tune release?  That is not the same as getting paid for the volume they sell.

sonr, the no results show thing has only started with this season as an experiment. I'd say this is the last season of Aus Idol anyway, as the contestants are shit and the sales are crap afterwards. And the ratings are in a downward spiral.

This doesn't surprise me. I have a friend who had a song featured in an American Idol commercial. Her label got paid $300,000 for just a 15 second clip of the song, but she saw nothing.

I can't believe I recall that shit too. Not only did they end up paupers, one ended up being the head Pussycat Doll, another hosting TV Guide's Reality Chat with AI Season 2 plant Kim Cuntwell who was also on Popstars and the rest oh well. Also the people that were on the first season of Making the Band had to sue for earnings. Just goes to show you that it's all about the money for the record execs.
