Amazon does that to almost all new albums. It's for promotions...they do it when even the best artists release something new. Though most of the time I wouldn't take any of them if you gave them to me for free.

Overhead per album

$0.75 (royalties to Lisa Frank for cover art)

$0.25 (additional glitter needed for cover art)

$0.65 (plastic casing and CD)

$1.50 (massive marketing campaign to convince people to buy crappy album)

$0.69 (paid to Flamebert)

$0.15 (Amazon's cut)

I'd buy if they sold 10 for $3.99. I have a lot of CD's that are missing a plastic casing.
