Simon Cowell is Apparently Quitting American Idol Due to Bad Blood

Richard Rushfield wrote an article in The Daily Beast today about why Simon Cowell is leaving American Idol after the current season. Speculation existed that Simon was merely leaving to helm his own show (an American version of Britain's X Factor), but Richard suggests that there was also bad blood on the Idol set. The article sugges that Simon Cowell was upset that Idol producer Simon Fuller was raking in the dough, whereas Simon Cowell was seen as merely on-air talent and wasn't getting a behind-the-scenes take (Cowell makes an estimated $50 million a year from the show, so it's safe to say Fuller must be making a ton more). Simon started to assert himself more by creating shows like American Inventor and America's Got Talent, eventually clashing more and more with the producers of Idol. Now Simon is poised to leave Idol and make a larger fortune if he can get X Factor off the ground and running, especially with Paula Abdul. If X Factor has Paula and Simon, while Idol has Kara and Randy, it's a safe bet that Idol's ratings would tank. So Simon Cowell has been plotting the end of Idol all this time? Who knew we were working on the same side as him? The article is a good read, so check it out.

This is so awesome! Obviously Simon wasn't happy, it looked like he was phoning it in all last season and probably will this year, too.

American Idol, meet the shark you're about to jump.

Oh that shark was cleared when Dogface joined. If Pauler's on XF with Simon, and they get anyone like Jedward, it'll murder Idol.

Idol is so done. Who would watch a judging panel of Randy, Kara, and Ellen? I agree with Insane. Simon looked like he was phoning it in the past 2 seasons. He had the same look of boredom we all had. I knew once Pauler quit he wouldn't be far behind.

Simon Cowell looked totally pissed off and completely disinterested throughout last season and this explains why. For all the attention that American Idol gets in the media, the unstoppable media focus on Susan Boyle from Cowell's show, Britain's Got Talent, completely flattened everything in it's path during 2009 and must have made Cowell realise that he now carries a lot more influence than Simon Fuller - especially as Idol's viewer numbers started falling three years ago. Looks like we could be watching an interesting battle over the next couple of seasons.

Taking sides? I like to call it lesser of two evils. Randy is OK, but I can care less about tarnished bitch Kara. So if she wants to stay with AI and help sink its ship faster, then go for it. The show lost its prime several seasons ago.

Good for Simon. I'd watch Simon and Pauler any day compared to Randa And Kara.

I like to think VFTW helped send it on its way by giving it the "death by a thousand cuts" with how we exposed their hijinks and hypocrisy. Excelsior!
