John Park is a member of an acapella group at Northwestern University called Purple Haze. John is a junior economics major. We don't see him going very far for 2 reasons: 1) Idol likes to make Asian contestants the butt of jokes, because Idol is racist and 2) John's friends are already leaking information about his participation on the show. Once Idol finds out, they might shitcan him. We shall see.
I think he will do fine. I love Asian singers, and no I am not Asian. It doesn't matter what race anyways, when you listen to music you normally don't see the artist and He definitely does not have a sterotypical asian voice, he is very Americanized so I think he will do great.
I find this all a bit offensive. The only reason why the aren't many around is because the big music execs don't have faith in them and don't want to try something different for a change. But AI is all about looking for the NEWEST talent...the world needs a CHANGE as Obama said...AI is always about finding DIFFERENT people...a lot of Asians have been waiting for this for a LONG time...so who are you to say that John Park isn't going to make it...WE are all HOPING that he will so don't rain on our parade before it's over. You're the one who sounds racist putting Asians down and not having faith that they'll make it on Idol. Give him a chance...we deserve it. Cater to a different audience for once. Look at Jasmine Trias...she made it all the way to the 3 spot and now has become a worldwide phenomenon...not only in the Phillipines...but Hawaii, as well. She's the ONLY Idol to ever perform on the Las Vegas Strip. Ramiele Lulaby, Sanjaya, Anoop, etc. There's been a few here and there...but don't stomp on him until you actually know the truth. Who says they are not marketable...? Michelle Branch is half asian and she has become a household name. Look at Alp De Alp from Black Eyed Peas...he's half Filipino and he's in a grammy winning band! Stop holding us back and have faith that some of us just may succeed and break through that barrier. Gosh!
