American Idol 7-9 contestant Angela Martin's mother, Viola Brown Martin, was reported missing just after Christmas. Radar Online is reporting that it's possible that Viola may have chosen to leave.

“We are not 100 percent sure that she is not off on her own accord,” Glenwood Police Sgt. Derek Peddycord told RadarOnline.com. “There are some sensitive issues that I am not allowed to discuss. Out of respect for the family, they’ve asked me not to have too much contact with the media.”

Either way, we hope Viola turns up safe and sound and everything works out for the Martin family.

Says the cop to the MEDIA. If he doesn't have anything concrete to report, maybe he should just shut up. “We are not 100 percent sure that she is not off on her own accord” is complete nonsense. I am not 100 percent sure that I might not have toast for breakfast tomorrow too.

uhmmm it seems no one but me gets what is going on. I thought for sure someone on here would have said this already.

When I first heard of her mom missing I told my friend I bet you she had it planned for her mom to go missing since she made it to Hollywood and after she was done on Idol she would turn up mysteriously(thought that jokingly). Then the more I thought about it the more I really think that is what happened. It was going to be a sympathy story so she could make it far on Idol. Her dad is dead, she has that kid of hers, and now her mom is missing she could have went far. Not a word about her mom in weeks and all of the sudden a a day or two after she didnt make the show we here Viola may have chosen to leave. WTF it just so happens that comes out after she didnt make it to Hollywood whatever. This was rigged and set up and I really don't blame them one bit because Idol makes it all about the stories and if you want to compete you better have one of your own. So I say make one lol. I guess her mom is just waiting a few weeks to come home now tho.

My first thought was it was a set up. I would rather find out it was a set up than something bad actually happening to her.

I have a nose for scams, and this doesn't seem like a scam to me-- mostly because I don't think Angela has the intellectual horsepower to conceive of such a thing. Also, even though the cops have no statutory duty to do anything, they don't take too kindly to being gamed and will seek satisfaction. There's no way she wouldn't know this.

I don't know about that. Do you really think if she doesn't have "the intellectual horsepower" to come up with a scam that she'll have enough to know the cops "will seek satisfaction"?? Besides which, she wouldn't need to be the brains of the operation, her mother, or some sleazy agent could be. I hope that isn't the case, but then again, if it is, at least it means her mother is okay.
