Update On Angela Martin's Mother

It hasn't been the greatest week for Angela Martin. After being told on American Idol tonight You're a STAR...Get Lost!, the mystery surrounding her missing mother is becoming clearer, and it's not a pretty picture...

...(Angela's) mother, 56-year-old Viola Brown Martin, has been missing since the holidays .

Angela's sister said Viola was spotted Friday near 55th and Halsted.

The family last saw her the day after Christmas when she left her Glenwood home to visit another sister who lives 20 minutes from the home. Viola's car was found days later near 139th and Ashland.

Now instead of thinking the worst, the family believes -- after 25 of being clean -- their mother relapsed on drugs.

While very unfortunate, it isn't exactly shocking, based on things we've heard, that things have taken a turn in this direction. All we can do is wish Angela and her family the best.

I hope her family is okay. She was robbed, and Idol just used her so horrible it made me sick. And WTF was with Kara holding her?!? Is she mistaking every being that breathes as a male with a penis now?!?

Angela needs to give it up, go home and take care of her domestic issues. There's no way the judges didn't know about her troubles and not think it would be distracting. You have to be totally 100% committed and focused and they were probably thinking, "damn", not another tragedy in her family.

Bad news, so sad. I'm really surprised that Idol didn't want to exploit the story to gain more viewers. I suppose they cut her before they knew. Whatever their reasons for sending her home, I'm glad they did. I think it would be too hard on her right now.

There's no doubt in my mind that she sings way better than at least a couple of those top 12 girls and her story is way sadder, so I'm not sure exactly why she was cut. Maybe they already know what 6 girls they want in the top 12 and they were afraid that she would be voted in and mess up all their plans. Hopefully she'll get some opportunities out of her screen time, Lord knows this poor girl needs something good to happen.

Yah, I think by cutting her they may have done her a favor. Maybe not intentionally, but she couldn't possibly have given 100% during live performances.

I, too, thought the segment when they cut her was obscene. Kara saying "look at me, look at me", hasn't she been through enough? Ryan did the same outside the room, as if they are feeding off of her tears. (I guess in a roundabout way, they are - i.e. ratings)

She may not have survived to Top 12, but I can't believe they thought she was as bad as Epperly, and Wheeler. They were just awful... Wheeler I think made it on legs, Epperly I have no idea...no talent, no looks, and no personality. No chance.

I wish Angela and family the best wishes and hope things do turn around for her soon.

I am normally VERY annoyed by the sob stories and the way they pimp the contestants who come from hardship but with Angela she actually has REAL hardships and (as unfortunate as it is) not some friend who died 3 YEARS ago, or something that happens to the rest of us regularly... but her father, and her daughter's situation and then her mother missing. I was almost brought to tears when they told her she wasn't in the Top 24. Here's a girl with a story who actually should have made it, a girl who has paid her dues. Just sad. A truly, very terrible moment on that show.
