I have been watching American Idol for a couple of years now and each year I have been disappointed with how the show has made talented people look like fools for the public’s enjoyment. American Idol is widely known for humiliating contestants so their ratings will soar. What kind of society condones American Idol’s behavior but has a problem with VFTW for doing the same thing? Sanjaya is the only contestant that looks like he is having a good time; please try to remember that he is only 17 yrs old.
I have two children (10, 5) and they enjoy watching all the contestants sing but as time has gone on the judge’s choice of words seem to be ridiculing not only the contestant’s voices but their choice of clothing, hair styles, and personality. I guess I don’t see how VFTW is doing any harm when they are just trying to show people what American Idol has been doing for years. This show is about ratings, not singing. They are going to put contestants on the show that are going to increase ratings.
As for a law suit, I am not so sure that anyone will win because VFTW has increased American Idol’s ratings. You have to show that because of VFTW’s actions, American Idol has suffered and the way I look at it is they are making more money. More viewers mean more money! Most of the voters in the past were 16-24 yrs old but now it has increased to include adults. I truly believe that as a society we need to look at how these reality shows are affecting our young kids. I don’t ever think it is okay when one human being is made to look like a fool in front of another, especially when the other is an entire nation.
