"She should try performing more age appropriate material."

That was age appropriate compared to what younger performers are going. Like 'Solid Gold' dancers, rather than strippers...

Paula's problem is that she was always known more for dancing than singing and she can no longer dance. Her backup dancers were all better.

She should actually acknowledge her physical limitations and give it up. Her style does not age gracefully. She is no Dionne Warwick (whose performance on AI with Burt Bacharach was perfection).

Unfortunately, the stage has been ceded to the likes of Gwen Stefani and Fergie...

I could not agree more. For someone who is 45, had voice problems, a messed up back - she did pretty well. Okay, so she lip-synched, so what. The fact of the matter is somehow she sang a song in a studio fairly well, stayed in tune, was able to move around the stage like a spring chicken, and looks good doing it.

It is easy to hate - it will be interesting to see if she follows through after working with Randy Jackson and sells a new album of her own. Put another way, she has outsold every person on American Idol so far in her career (Kelly Clarkson with multiple albums included).

IT still boggles my mind that Paula had 6 consecutive #1 singles and most were there for many weeks each. Granted, 1989-1992 was one of THE worst periods in popular music (except maybe 2006-2008), but she was a HUGE success. But then she was gone.

I sort of wondered why she didn't TRY to return to performing. Wasn't there a car accident or something around 1993?

Her voice was very thin then and if anything it sounds a little stronger now. Studio wizardry, probably.

It beats selling jewelry on qvc, I guess.

I give her props for getting through that routine sober without tripping over anything.
