As American Idol heads to San Francisco for its auditions, newly reintroduced executive producer Nigel Lythgoe is there to talk about what the show is looking for this year. He's tired of winners like Lee DeWyze that stand there with a guitar and don't move. Nigel tells PressDemocrat.com:
"I would really like to see somebody who can sing and move. I'm so sick of watching people who are just wandering around. All of the stars of the show move. The next Michael Jackson might be out there."
While that's doubtful, Ryan Seacrest echoes Nigel's claims, saying that they're looking for the next Lady Gaga. Ryan says he wants a young act that's a spectacle on the stage. That's exactly what we want too! As many spectacles as possible please. Could Idol finally be casting the show correctly? We're not holding our breath.

We all recall that great dancing skill of Justin (AI1) and Simon(?) likening it to the scarecrow from Wizard of Oz...or was that more of a Sideshow Bob effect?

My all time favorite contestant was Jacob Hoggard on Canuckistan Idol. That boy moved and wore fantastic costumes, and definitely put on a spectacle. It was so much fun to watch! I'd love to see more of that on the American side of the show. Here's for blue spandex jumpers that tell the whole world your religion!

So, they are looking for a 15 year old, who doesn't have a good voice, and who can move. God, who could be their inspiration?

Analog_Kid, that is so true. By the time Idol finds its 15 y.o. singer/dancer who looks 12, the public will have moved on to the next big thing.

Is it too late to cast Prince Poppycock as the chosen one? I'd love to see him do Beatles week.

Though I like the idea of not being bored to tears from people just sitting/standing and strumming their guitars to show how oh, so talented they are because they can actually play an instrument (while having no other discernable talent)... a spectacle might not bring the show back. Lambert was already a spectacle and we know how well that turned out. Then again, nothing is going to bring this show back, no matter what their plan is. yay

Well that settles it. We MUST have another old white guy with guitar as the winner. If the next MJ is out there......he ain't trying out for Idol that's for sure.
