Autotune Controversy on X Factor Leads to Simon Cowell Calling for a Ban

After viewers noticed that the contestants on this season's British TV show X Factor were obviously autotuned (we could easily tell in the video we posted earlier), people weren't happy. An article in the Daily Mirror has a quote from a former employee of the show who says:

"It was an open secret on the show that Auto-Tune was used to both make contestants slightly more on key – or off – key. On some occasions it was used to such extremes that while the contestant may have sounded like they were hitting the right note, the backing band had gone right out of tune.

It has been used for a long time on the show both for the auditions and the live shows.

The problem is that you have got a lot of contestants who sound equally good, so how do viewers at home make a judgement on who to pick.

So Auto-Tune has been used to make good singers sound even better and not so good singers sound much worse."

We're sure American Idol employs equally shady tactics. The article alleges that other vocal shifting technology like Melodyne was used as well. But due to the firestorm, Simon Cowell is now saying that autotuning is banned from the show. As if he didn't know... Bitch, please.

If they banned autotune on Idol, there would never be musical guests and group sings would be awesome again.

Well, why I am not surprised? Simon Cowell is an ass who would use people for his own gain.

I am so picturing a XXX movie with the last line.

Folks have to blow the judges and get banged to make the final cut....

I am like so the results show will be like 10 minutes long since they will not find any contemporary artist to sing auto tune free. Better yet, just put the results in the newspaper who got cut the next morning....

haha

Of course they do. Several AI contestants have complained that the stage band will cahnge the tempo of the song and/or the key to throw off the contestant.

Another point about this issue that speaks to the fraud that these shows are perpetrating is that when it first became an issue, the producers and Simon tried to lie that it was just one contestant and just one time and that 'Slime-on' Cowell would never let it happen again. The quoted staffer obviously couldn't take the deceit any more and set the record straight.

As you watch live Idol, you will notice that during their interviews and judging, the singers never use the microphone they sing with as it has been set up with the voice enhancing audio processing.
